If you are gonna learn tricks then yeah get a skateboard but if you just wanna cruise then get a longboard.

If you're just starting I recommend going to your local skate shop and asking someone who works there to help you pick everything out whilst sticking to your budget.

If you aren't fortunate enough to live near a skate shop check out the following websites where you can buy a complete skateboard or pick out the parts separately and build it yourself at home:

If you've got any skate shop around such as Attic or Active, you can buy a pre-made complete that honestly won't be the best thing in the world, but it will get you from point A to B and the deck will be sufficient enough to learn tricks on.

One thing I'd reccomend is buying new bearings for it so it could ride smoother and longer, as the bearings they come with aren't the best.

I'd also upgrade the deck once you've learned quite a bit. You'll notice the difference between a new brand name deck, and the no name deck the complete will come with.

I actually just started as well, I found a local skate-shop that if you bought everything they would put it together and you got like 10% off everything, maybe areas around you have something like that as well.
