Hey, I'm thinking of upgrading to a GTX 1080 from a 970. And I was just wondering would my PC work with a 1080 or would I change somethings, Thanks <3

The 1080 would be fine.

What monitor are you getting?

Yes a 1080 would be an upgrade but there is really no point for it as a 970 is still a decent card.

What if he/she just wants to be cool? Dont be jelly.

Honestly though, the 1080 would be a still be a viable upgrade. Much better than a 970. Yes, the 970 is still a decent card, but we'll know what will be better if he/she tells us the monitor they might get.

If you're going to be getting a 1080, dont use it for 1080p. Just get that monitor and stick with the 970 you have.

If you want to get the 1080, get a [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] or a [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] monitor.

Any reason for 1ms 144Hz monitor? They're BS anyways.
Are you competive gaming like on CSGO or CoD?

144Hz 1080p panels suck because they're all TN. I used one yesterday for the first time in a few months and it made me want to throw up, it was that bad. £270 is more than enough for a very nice monitor.

GTX 1080 would be a terrible option IMO. It's not a good card, not worth the premium over a GTX 1070 unless you have tons of cash and are maybe thinking about SLI in the future.

Or another alternative would be to add a 2nd GTX 970 and get similar performance to a GTX 1070/1080.

Yes, I play CS and COD but I've heard that these 144hz 1MS are suppose to be insane but not sure how true this is.
