What is your budget and currency? 600 GBP
Do you need a monitor? No.
Do you need a keyboard? No.
Do you need a mouse? No.
Do you need an operating system? No.
What will you use the PC for? Main use would be gaming, I want to be able to run GTA V on decent settings and other games.

How about this? You'll want to add an SSD in due course though

Motherboard is way over-priced. Not necessary at all. $65-$70 on a motherboard would be fine in this rig. PSU is poor quality and over-priced. There are better options. Most importantly though, it's the wrong currency and doesn't apply to OP in any way. That system would be £50 over OP's budget, not including the cost of the PSU.

That's not a good choice either. FX-6300 would be a terrible option. AM3+ is 5 years old, it's a dead socket. i3-6100 will out-perform it ez, and for the same price. As seen, OP could fit an i5 within budget, which would be significantly better than an FX-6300. Of course, I knew it was coming, that god damn 212x It sucks. It's again, a 5 year old design. Let it die. Why are people so adamant on holding on to old technology? The Cryorig M9i, Be Quiet Pure Rock, and Raijintek Aidos are newer, cheaper, easier to install and better performing than the 212x. Or for the same price in the UK, you can get a Cryorig H5 which would pimp slap a 212x. Spending £75/600 on a PSU is pretty illogical. You can get good quality units for less than £50 ez. Or, for like £2 more than that 550GS, you can get a 650G2 which is better quality, and more wattage. Plus, the 650G2 would actually support XFire, whereas the 550GS definitely does not. You mention that "most of EVGAs PSUs are rebranded Super Flower" which isn't true. The G2, and P2 units are. The GS units are SeaSonic OEM. Oh, and FYI, the 480 is more expensive than a GTX 970 in the UK, not cheaper. The 970 also still pulls ahead in some games. 480 is the superior option, but it's not cheaper and it's not always better.

At this point, I wouldn't get 2x4GB DIMMs, I'd get a single 8GB DIMM. Sure, dual channel will be slightly better, but an 8GB DIMM means you can add a 2nd 8GB DIMM when you have a spare £30, and still be able to add more. Also, GTX 970 doesn't make sense anymore. RX 480 is slightly more expensive but a better option since it has new tech, and a huge die shrink. Plus, the GTX 1060 is like a week away and should offer 970 performance or better but with new tech, huge die shrink and cost around the same, so if NVidia is preferred, it'd be better to wait for a 1060.

That with a GTX 1060 or RX 480. Do not buy a reference card. Reference 480s suck because that single 6 pin is holding them back. 1060 reference will suck because "hurr durr Founders Edition, +£50 plz thx" Aftermarket 1060s should be available immediately when the GPU launches, on the 19th. Aftermarket 480s should be available on the 14th. You can pre-order an aftermarket Sapphire or Powercolor 480 on overclockers. You may be a little over budget, so if you need to get a 480/1060 within budget, you'd want to drop the CPU to an i3-6100, which would still be fine.

Thanks for the clarification on the rebranded SuperFlower units. If you read the description on the video, you'll see that I intentionally went all AMD/Radeon with the build and would normally not recommend an AMD CPU at all at the moment.

I actually quite like the 212X as a value proposition - but don't have one myself as I'm a Noctua fan (pun intended). Used to have the Evo though, back in the day.

As for the spending £75 on a PSU being illogical, we'll have to have differing views. Having had a PSU go bang whilst I was using my computer (and the horrible burning smell that followed) I will never skimp on a PSU I'm afraid.

Didn't read the bio, I wasn't even going to bother properly watching the video but I felt I should and just leave my input. I don't see the point in going "all AMD", especially when you lose a significant amount of performance by doing so.

212x sucks, Cryorig H5 is the same price and significantly better. Even if the 212x/EVO were cheaper, it still wouldn't make sense. There are newer, better coolers that are easier to install and cheaper.

I'm not saying don't spend £75 on a PSU, I'm saying don't spend £75 on a PSU with a budget as tight as this. In a £1k rig, sure, go ham. Although, as I said, even if you were spending that much, the 550GS is a bad option since the 650G2 is the same price. Spending less than £75 on a PSU is not skimping. That's ridiculous. I'm usually the one complaining about PSU's around here, like those cheap shit CX units, or EVGA's shitty G1 units. However, that doesn't mean you need to spend almost 1/6th of your budget on a PSU. You can easily get a nice XFX or Seasonic PSU for less than £40-45. Heck, you can get a Super Flower unit for like £55.

So I just looked and a 1060 is supposed to cost around 249GBP which would just be the regular edition, would the build be able to run GTA at good settings?

Also aren't aftermarket 480s going to cost anywhere for 290-315?

I don't know. The GTX 1060 hasn't released yet. Aftermarket 480s will be available for £250.
