Like the name. Got to see Beartooth about a year ago. So when it comes down to it, I honestly don't listen to the heavy stuff much anymore.

Around sixth grade I got into my first metal band: Bullet for My Valentine.

(Side Note: I'm going to use the term "metal" loosely as a general umbrella for music that contains low tuned, heavy guitars and screaming. A lot of people hate the misuse of genres so I'm just stating this now.)

Upon getting into them, I started to listen to the likes of Slipknot, Killswitch Engage, Avenged Sevenfold, Rage Against the Machine, As I Lay Dying, and August Burns Red.

Eventually, around high school, I was shown the band Asking Alexandria. This introduced me to metal that had more of a poppy side, such as Underoath, Memphis May Fire, I See Stars, Issues, Woe Is Me, or Like Moths To Flames. Basically all the metal bands that insert catchy, poppy hooks in-between all the other stuff. I typically listened to every band in that scene, to be honest.

I'm now in college, and only listen to one heavy band. Not to say that metal is a phase or that it's immature, I just found new tastes. I mostly now listen to, what most would call "pop punk". This includes Turnover, The Story So Far, Real Friends, Knuckle Puck, Neck Deep. Those are some of the bigger names of the genre.

That being said, the one metal/hardcore band that has stuck with me through the years is the one and only: Counterparts.

If you haven't already, go give Tragedy Will Find Us by Counterparts a listen.

Side story.... Me and some friends drove from New Orleans to Houston to see Counterparts, and some idiot in the pit was swinging his fist, intentionally getting really close to the crowd. He misjudged and hit me square in the nose. Come to find out it was broken AND its forever slightly crooked. Counterparts hadn't even come out yet! Still one of my favorite concerts ever.

I love metal, but I'm picky nowadays. Most of it now is crappy in my opinion. 90's-2010 was booming then it went downhill.

Saw Beartooth live at Download this year, pretty great show.
I'll listen to anything from the pig squeals about murder to these beautiful melodic songs. Ben binge listening to Tremonti recently, which I'd say is more hard rock, but they're great. (from reading your topic, I'm seeing Thy Art live soon as well)

I'm a HUGE metal fan. I've listened to just about every sub genre at one point in my life. I started listening to metal in 5th grade. Sabbath, Pantera, Slayer, stuff like that. Then in jr high I went through the metalcore stage of my life. Suicide Silence, Bring me the Horizon, Emmure, the kind of stuff you see on warped tour. After a couple years of that I found Progressive metal. Dream Theater, Opeth, Nevermore, Symphony X, thats pretty much what I listen to now.

Favorite bands

1. Dream Theater
2. Opeth
3. Megadeth
4. Porcupine Tree
5. Foo FIghters
6. Nirvana
7. Nevermore
8. Symphony x

I'm also in a metal band currently, we released this album in 2013. We're about to release a new one this year.

I was waiting for a metal topic ^^ I love metal, rock, hard rock, etc..

Depending on how "heavy" you like you should check out Amaranthe.

They're not super heavy by any means but still a great listen.

some of my favorite bands include..

Killswitch Engage
Of Mice & Men
Alter Bridge
Disturbed
Tremonti
Avenged Sevenfold
Sleeping With Sirens
Volbeat
Amaranthe
