Hey Ive had my cpu overclocked to 3.76ghz since i built it last summer, [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] So i wanted to know if its worth crossing the 4ghz threshold. My cpu idles at 33 Celsius with fan speed of the cpu cooler running at 25%

Idle temperatures are irrelevant. It's your load temperatures you need to keep an eye on. As long as your chip is stable and cool under load, then sure, bump up the OC bit by bit.

So what temp is too high and causes dmg? Also what are good stress testing software?

I'd be concerned if my CPU was going over 88-90 degrees

These will both give you temperature stats on all hardware, CPU, GPU etc.

Also how did you manage to overclock before without stress testing your CPU to make sure it was stable?

There was an option in the bios to have it set at 3.7
