I was talking to a friend today and we were discussing about dogs and people and the question came up of who would win in a fight between a dog or a person? What do you guys think?

My friend thought that a person would win because he has seen videos of people defending themselves from wild dogs and I thought that a dog would win because they're stronger and have better fitness and they're also wild animals.

Obviously this is just a question and the situation would be self defense, I don't condone violence against animals or anything like that

It all depends on the size of either i guess. If the human is tall and "stocky" against a small dog...it's obvious. And same the other way round. But...all it takes is a nasty bite from a dog either the neck/wind pipe. Or a human to separate the back legs. Either way i personally wouldn't like to see something like this.

Depends on a lot of different varables.

Just wanted to point out that dogs aren't wild animals, wolves are wild animals. Dogs are bred specifically for the purpose of doing things for humans like hunting and herding and it's very rare to see them in the wild. Dogs are also certainly not stronger than humans, they're far smaller and only have their mouth as a weapon when we have our whole body.

They do have better short duration cardio but a trained human would outlast a dog if it was a long distance run like fifty or one hundred miles.

In terms of an actual fight, if someone knew what they were doing then it shouldn't be too hard. Just defend your throat/head and kick as hard as you can and you should win. Just remember that a dog needs four legs to stand up, swipe them if you can and keep your distance. Dogs are strong in groups but weak individually and most dogs are intelligent enough not to fight something twice their size and strength unless they're starving or mad, otherwise they'll just run off.

Well I am going to assume we have a fully trained attack dog or a Caucasian bear fighting dog and a UFC athelete.

I am gonna say the dog; one bite its over, they lock their jaws with more power than over 95% of animals and if it has a 5 meter run up before the bite then the momentum will drag ANY human down.

This is too broad to give an answer but dogs have the ability to kill alot easier than a human.
