I bought a new headset for pc but when I opened it I realized there is only one audio connector because it is mainly for xbox one. It says I need an audio splitter but I plugged the single chord into the microphone jack and recorded my voice to see how it sounds and it is quiet and sounds like im in a box. Is this because I need a splitter or is there something wrong with my pc audio input. It sounds good on xbox

Well if its mainly for xbox one its not going to go well with a PC. Would also help if you could give us the name of the headset.
