I need a decent monitor for my build.

Requirements:
1080p or 1440p
1ms response

Budget: £150

Also would an 144hz be something to go for or is 60hz completely fine?

You're not going to get a 1440p monitor within budget. You also won't get a 120/144Hz monitor within budget. Ignore response time, it's nowhere near as relevant as you think.

Ultrawide, IPS, 75Hz. Best option for your budget IMO.

I don't really want to game on an ultrawide, what would you recommend for a regular 16:9 monitor?

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ] isn't the best monitor you can get for your budget. But i really like the monitor, not too big and not too small. Arrived with NO dead pixels. Can overclock the Hz to 75 like i did. There are more monitors to spend your money on that are better than this one. But i really like the design of it.

Or get the AOC : [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

^^ I had a few people on here suggest this one too me, but i chose the other on due to the colour.

You can get the 22" variant of the AOC monitor linked above for £100 and there's no need to spend more than that for a 1080p monitor. However, the Ultrawide is objectively better. Its a 75Hz panel so you get higher refresh rate and it doesn't mean you have to play games in ultrawide, you can play at 1920x1080 in certain games if you prefer.

As for overclocking, you won't just be able to overclock to 75Hz because someone else did. It all comes down to luck. You could buy a 60Hz monitor and not be able to overclock it at all, or you could manage to get 80Hz+ from it. Monitor overclocking is also pretty sketchy compared to other components, it's not as safe. I recommend it if you want to but it's not necessary.

I had two identical monitors, managed to overclock one to 76Hz and the second wouldn't go past 61Hz. The difference between 60Hz and 75Hz is pretty noticeable, which is why I recommend the Ultrawide. It is objectively your best option and you don't have to play at 2560x1080 resolution.
