Hey there guys, I am building a new pc but struggling to decide between the Corsair H115I and the Kraken X61 Closed Loop Water cooler.
My Pc Build is the following:
Mobo: Asus Rampage V Edition 10
CPU: I7 6850K
GPU: Asus GTX 1080 Strix
SSD: 512GB M.2 Samsung
RAM: Corsair DDR4 Dominator Platinum 2X8GB (3200MHz)
PSU: EVGA 850W Supernova P2
Case: Corsair 760T V2 Black and red
Now for the CPU Cooler I was originally Corsair FTW for this build considering I was thinking of an Asus/ Corsair mix so I was going for the H115I but now having 2nd thoughts I kind of like the X61 better for aesthetics but ofc I would much rather a more durable and better Cooling Solution.
My only problem is that I cant seem to find many comparisons to the two
I know they are both 280mm rads but is there a difference in performance? Thanks!

First of all, that would be a terrible purchase. The motherboard is over-priced. The CPU makes no sense, the 6850k is a 5930k. Just get a 5820k, or a 6800k if you must pay the extra $50. GTX 1080 is not worth the premium over the GTX 1070. RAM is more than likely incredibly over-priced. I sure hope that's a 512GB 950 PRO, and not an 850 PRO. Platinum rated PSU isn't necessary really, but the wattage is more of an issue IMO. 650W is plenty for SLI GTX 1070/SLI GTX 1080, so a 750W would be more than enough. There really is no reason to get an 850W unit. I'd recommend getting either a 650W P2 or 750W G2 as they're similarly priced, and you can choose whether you'd prefer a slightly better quality, more efficient PSU, or a slightly larger wattage PSU.
As for AIO, I'd be taking the X61 over the H115i. Actual performance difference between the two will be pretty negligible, but the X61 should come out on top for the most part.

This is a station I plan to keep for a good amount of time therefore I've decided to go premium on the board ram etc. Something that I actually want in other words.

Price to performance may seem crazy but again its a self build project where I want to go all out ( as much as I can) Hey I mean ill be running a Asus Pg348Q some will says that's stupidly crazy for the price too but meh loool. Thanks pal Oh and ofc Its a 950 Pro on the other hand I will change the PSU to a 750W

Hm. Over-paying for RAM and motherboard doesn't mean it's going to last any longer, it just means you're wasting money. I'm willing to bet you're paying almost as much, or potentially more for that 16GB kit of RAM, than a decent 32GB kit would cost. The motherboard is something like $550 or so, is it not? Completely unnecessary. Even if you did want a higher end mobo on the X99 platform, you don't need to spend that much. The CPU is literally just a waste of money. An i7-5820k at the same clock speeds as an i7-6850k will perform literally the exact same.

It's literally just a waste of money. If you're running 3440x1440 at 100Hz, why not get a better GPU set-up, instead of wasting money on mobo, RAM, etc. The GTX 1080 is a waste of money. It's just not worth the premium over a GTX 1070. The GTX 1080 is a 50% price increase for a 10-20% performance improvement, at best.

I don't know a lot about builds, but if i was you. I'd listen to Sancty and save yourself some money.

If moneys no issue and it does not bother you that you could have a pc thats performs the same for almost £700 less then go for it. Some of the parts your looking at are ridiculously overpriced though, especially the motherboard. You really dont need to spend this much to make a good looking pc.
I understand that your going for looks, i was somewhat the same getting a cube case with a big window thats sits on my desk and picking some parts based on looks rather than its features/performance.
But since moneys no problem stick another 1080 in there and set up a full loop water cooling solution if you want a pc thats looks good.

Yeah, I've got to say, if this is a "crazy build project" where you want to go "full out", I really don't understand why you're worrying about a CPU/RAM/Mobo that's literally a waste of money, and then having a hard time deciding which AIO to use, instead of doing a custom loop. Why not just save some money and get a slightly cheaper motherboard, RAM that isn't over-priced, a 5820k/6800k, and a GTX1070(or SLI), or a Titan XP(though waiting for a potential 1080Ti would be smarter) and do a full custom loop, or at least a GPU loop.

I would wait out for a 1080Ti but again I've heard no news regarding them and we would possibly be looking at a release around May/June? I need a new build within the next few weeks!
The RAM to be fair isn't that much more expensive in my eyes at an extra what $55?
Again the Mobo is on the expensive side due to the included Supreme FX Hi-Fi SC which could be sold on if I really wanted There's cash back to be made. I could potentially look at SLI GTX 1070'S Which wouldn't be a bad idea and a 5820K but again I prefer to have more PCIE lanes. Custom Water cooling will 100% be added at a later date. I can make sure of that! But temporary I will be running AIO. I will continue to mess around with my build and take all your advice on board. Deffo at the GTX 1070'S I shall keep you updated!

No idea where you heard that, but there's no way it will take that long for a 1080Ti to release, if there is going to be one. The Titan XP is already out, if a 1080Ti does release, it will just be a cut down Titan XP. There's no way it's another year away since NVidia are working on Volta. Also, Vega will more than likely be out before mid next year, so releasing a 1080Ti after Vega would make no sense, and AMD would be working on Navi at that time as well, anyway. If NVidia were to wait that long, they'd be shooting themselves in the foot. The only reason I suggest waiting for a 1080Ti, is because last gen, the 980Ti out-performed the Titan X in the majority of scenario's, unless all 12GB VRAM was being utilised, so a 1080Ti would likely be a much wiser purchase than a Titan XP. Also, SLI 970s=980Ti, so 1080Ti will likely be a little better than SLI 1070s, for hopefully, a similar cost to SLI 1070s.
Aidan- wrote I need a new build within the next few weeks!
Titan XP or SLI 1070s then.
Aidan- wrote The RAM to be fair isn't that much more expensive in my eyes at an extra what $55?
That's literally twice the price it should be then. 16GB RAM can be had for less than $60 fairly easily, so paying $120 or so for 16GB RAM is absolutely pointless. You could get 32GB RAM for that money.
Aidan- wrote Again the Mobo is on the expensive side due to the included Supreme FX Hi-Fi SC which could be sold on if I really wanted There's cash back to be made.
Or, you know, you could get a cheaper motherboard that isn't a waste of money and not have to sell parts to make some money back? Or buy a nice DAC/AMP and a cheaper motherboard instead of an over-priced motherboard with "Supreme FX Hi-Fi SC".
Aidan- wrote but again I prefer to have more PCIE lanes.
Do you even know why? You don't need more PCIe lanes. The 5820k/6800k is more than plenty for 2-way SLI/XFire. There's no need to go more than 2-way SLI/XFire, as it's not really worth it anyway. There is no need for more PCIe lanes, it's just a waste of $300 or so for the exact same CPU with slightly higher clock speeds from the factory.
Aidan- wrote Custom Water cooling will 100% be added at a later date. I can make sure of that! But temporary I will be running AIO. I will continue to mess around with my build and take all your advice on board.
Well, if you're going to do a custom loop in the future anyway, I'd suggest getting a Cryorig H5 since it's a $40-$50 cooler that rivals $100+ AIOs, and performs quieter. It's a bulletproof option for a CPU cooler. Plus, it means you don't waste as much money since it's just a placeholder. Otherwise, maybe an EK Predator 360 or a similar semi-AIO.
