challenge of elders, grinding heroic strikes and using three of coins

In order to raise your light level there is a lot of things you can do to help raise it! For you, being at 280 gives lots of options. At 280 light your best option to raise your light is to do your "weeklies." When I say weeklies I mean King's Fall (KF), Challenge of the Elders (CE), and the Vanguard Heroic Strikes (VH). After you knock out CE and KF, do VH strikes nonstop using three of coins so you can get exoitcs. Since youre constantly running VH you get legendary engrams drops often, too. And on top of all of that you level factions which will give you better gear. If running VH is not your thing, you're not out of luck just yet. After you focus on getting KF and CE done, do crucible. You will get legendary weapon drops and you can rank up giving you that sweet rank up gear which is always higher light until you reach the light level 330. After you hit 330, faction rank up packages will not give you over 330 light drops. However, you can still do KF and CE and pop those three of coins in VH! After awhile of grinding those you will hit 335 with ease.

NOTE: You can use Three of Coins on the following to get exotics:

Crucible matches
Shade of Oryx in King's Fall
Killing the boss in Vanguard Strikes (any difficulty)
Random event ultras (I.E. Taken boss on patrol)
All three bosses in Challenge of the Elders
The final boss in the Prison of Elders
Any ultra you can fight in the story missions
