I did a new build roughly 2 or 3 weeks ago and I'm obviously going to need Antivirus. Bitdefender is what I've been using for almost 3 years, but that was always used on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. Now that I'm using Windows 10, I want a little feedback before getting a new AV. It most searches, it seems to be pretty much back and forth between Bitdefnder and Kaspersky, but Kaspersky has a slight issue that is a turn off for me. Apparently the software is very "paranoid" and will try to block common things. I remember reading an topic on Tom's Hardware about one guy having to always go and manually bypass Steam games through his AV and then download them through Steam, instead of just normally downloading them. I haven't seen anything else with regards to Steam, just others also making the comparison of it being paranoid.

I have never touched Trend Micro Maximum, but I have seen it suggested a few times on Reddit and a few other sites, but again, I'm still getting results jumping between the 3. Bitdefender is the only one I've used and have had no problems with in the past, but with a new OS, I want to make sure I'm getting the most out of an AV as possible, just one that doesn't become a hassle.

I don't actively use a Windows 10 computer, but I've heard lots about the windows defender being able to block out issues like any other AV. I could be wrong, this is just what I've heard. If Bitdefender is the only one you've used and have had no problems with previously, I'd suggest continuing using it. If problems arise, go with Kaspersky. Also, what was the "slight issue" you were talking about?

The "slight issue" with Kaspersky is based off of reviews from others. Apparently it's "paranoid" and tries to block things it shouldn't, like the example I posted about with a user having issues with Steam. That would be a slight issue for me, because now it becomes a hassle

Ah, I see. I believe paranoia is common with most widely known antivirus softwares. Even my own web browser is quite annoying sometimes with blocking and restricting random things that I know are completely safe to use and browse or download. Regardless, Kaspersky should give you options to disable it's safety checks whenever you feel the need to - so if it's being a little too extreme, disable it, do what you need to do, and then re-enable it. Like I said originally, I'd suggest sticking with Bitdefender.

Best antivirus is common sense. Only virus I ever had was a tricky one. Not detected by most of the big anti virus programs. I used malwarebytes and spybot to kill it. Took a while running both in safe mode then in normal.

For real time defense though, the windows anti virus should be fine, and just use malwarebytes and spybot you think you might have a virus.

For the best defense you should be using multiple virus detections. Stay away from all the major ones like avast, mcafee because they are what most people are gonna go semi undertectable for.

I had kaspersky 2015 and it was so paranoid so many things you had to configure to get all of the notifications to stop. I'm not saying it didn't do a good job at what it was supposed to do but it was more of an inconvenience to me.

Malwarebytes and Windows Defender that's all you need. I'd recommend Avast too but I think Windows Defender is a decent replacement.
