So I have been building my computer for a bit and finally got it to a place where I felt I could run everything great. Not the case.
I am currently running in my rig-
GTX 1070
AMD FX-8350 cpu
8 gb ram
850w psu
and I cannot recall the mother board..
I get somewhat poor performance for the money I have spent... Anyone have recommendations based on what I have given you? Happy to answer any questions if you ask them, I just want an awesome gaming computer that I built instead of a prebuilt, but I feel like I am missing something!

Please figure out the motherboard you're using. From what i can tell already, an 850w PSU is overkill for your rig.
Also, please specify each part, not just a few.

Should have got a good i5 cpu. can't really beat intel in my eyes. Also 8gb ram probably won't last you more than a couple years. More and mroe games are requiring 8gb as minimum. Also, poor performance how? Is it bad fps? stuttering? what games, what settings, what resoultion.

Download Speccy and it'll tell you the exact motherboard you are running.

I am having bad frame rate mainly, game like ARMA 3 and gta, anything really thats current on the higher graphics settings. I feel like my rig is pretty current on good parts besides the ram.

Thank you for that tidbit! I got speccy, and I am running a M5A97 R2.0 Asus mother board, it is probably the oldest part in my rig.

Sorry, and I tried for 4k since I have a 4k tv, but it gets really bad at that point, so I run 1080p generally (1920x1080)

The only thing might be the cpu but everything seems fine to me.

Is there a specific reason the CPU is no good?..
