Just checked out his music and here is what I think:

The concepts behind his tracks are a little bit different sounding, but I feel like his aim was all over the place. I had to skip through so many parts of the tracks I listened to (which isn't a great practice, I know) because they were all so boring. There is no energy in any of the tracks - and, yes, you can have energy in slow, sad, or depressing music - but his stuff is just boring. The mixing all around was extremely sub par; leveling was not good and a good EQ was nowhere to be found, especially in the lower register. I don't mean to sound harsh, but your friend needs to work on his content more and practice more.

YouTube videos, collaborations, schooling, and most of all - practice - all help.

Very boring not a fan of it. 4/10!
