Personally, I'd pick Yaya almost every-time. Players who are small and weak aren't good in midfield and I'd rather have someone like Yaya who is strong, tall, able to take longshots and has good defending.
Kante is extremely overrated this year, nobody seems to notice that he's 5'6 and extremely weak with no aerial or strength threat at all. Not to mention that he has no ingame traits, bad weakfoot/skills and terrible shooting. A CM should be able to do everything, especially come forward and attack.
Workrates aren't that big of a deal this FIFA either, Ben Yedder is high/high and has scored over one hundred goals in one hundred games for me and he's unbelievable. If you put the instructions and custom tactics correct, your players will still make runs and do what they're told.
Defiently not, Kante is without a doubt the best midfielder in the game. Nearly all pros use either him or Renato Sanches in their teams. Kante is the best at build up play, he can win the ball back from absolutely anyone. His shooting does let him down but I don't see that as a huge flaw in a CDM. Whenver I build a new team the first player that always goes in is Kante. You'd also be suprised with the amount of headers he wins. Kante is without a doubt the best defensive midfielder I've ever used.
When was CDM mentioned? I'd hands down take Kante as a CDM. But OP said for a CM. I'd far rather a huge 6'2 CM with amazing strength, headers and passing than a small weak CM who can't attack. Kante is a brilliant player but Yaya would be a far better CM in formations like 4-1-2-1-2 (2) where both CMs are used to pass and attack and the CDM does all the defending. Someone who's weak with bad shooting and terrible attacking workrates isn't a great CM.
Kante is definately not the best defensive midfielder in the game either. Yes he's OP but he's only 81 rated and better players like Nainggolan, Marchisio and especially Vidal are all far better. Personally I'd use Matic over Kante because he's a better holding midfielder but I guess that's down to how I play.
I disagree completely, best CM/CDM i have used on the game. He's not great at attacking but everything else he is amazing at, obviously the heading aspect I understand but even then he wins a good 50% of my headers somehow. Kante starts half of my attacks from CM, and I have him and Renato Sanches as 2 CM's and it works wonders for me anyways.
