If you are planning on booking a flight for THIS holiday, you are out of luck. The shorter the notice the more it is. If you would have booked it in the Summer you could have gotten a really good deal. It also depends where you are looking to go.

Can you provide your origin to destination?

Usually booking flights 6 months in advance is the best.

Usually if me and friends are planning a holiday away. It would be anything from 1 year to 7 months in advance, short notice.. probably wouldn't get very many deals tbh man.

I mostly book tickets for X-Mas around summertime and for summer around X-Mas.
That's the best you gonna get.

You should always try to book plane tickets for international flights 5 to 6 months before you aim to leave as this is generally when Airlines start to manage the pricing, 3 months for more domestic flights. So book early but not too early, unless you are daring and want to try last minute booking.

Never book your flight out ticket to be on a Friday, try to leave during the start of the week (such as a Saturday/Sunday/Monday) as Fridays is when plane tickets are generally more expensive.

Find out who else flies to your chosen destination and compare.

Try and fly off peak, so out of school holidays (probably not possible for you) and unsociable hours. Also compare your chosen departure day to the day before and after just in case.

Always check the extras, majority of times you have to un-check them, RyanAir is bad at this. Sometimes they automatically add on insurance when you don't need it.

Paying by credit card can protect your money if if their is a issue on the airlines behalf however, debit card can sometimes be cheaper.

Travel as light as you can, share if you can.

If you are doing a holiday package it makes no difference as flights are generally included. If you are doing it all separately make sure you take in to consideration luggage and transfer to and from the airport to the hotel and back.

What you should do is look at different airlines and see which one is offering the cheapest tickets. For me, Southwest Airlines happens to be the cheapest, it was about $150 cheaper to fly with them than to use United & American.

Southwest is the cheapest. I usually always use them for when i come home. But i never heard about the Tuesday thing, interesting
