i5-6400 is a bad choice due to the low clock speeds. H60 doesn't make sense, no need to spend so much on a cooler for a locked CPU.

Slightly over budget. 4GB RX 480 is better than the 3GB GTX 1060 but if you want NVidia, you can get a 3GB GTX 1060 for $30-40 less than a 4GB RX 480 which will put this system right around the $1100 mark.

thanks for the build. Would it be worth it to spend a bit of extra money and get a 6gb 1060? and maybe only get say 12gb of ram?

It doesn't make sense to buy 12GB RAM at all. You're going to want 16GB RAM for gaming and editing/rendering. A 4GB RX 480 would be fine, but you can spend $30 more for a 6GB GTX 1060 if you want. The only thing I'd change to save money is drop the Cryorig M9i for now and just use the stock cooler for the time being.

That's USD. Cheapest 2TB HDD in Aus is $90. 1TB is fine for now and he can always add more storage when he has some more money.
