I think it depends on the owner and how you raise them. Not all of them are bad I've seen a lot of really nice ones, Is that going to be the only dog in the house or is their more ?

Never had a problem with my pibble, 14 years of ownership and she was the best dog we had.

A dogs a dog. You don't raise it right and chances are it will be a prick.

There's no such thing as "bad dogs"
it all depends on how you raise them.

Pitbulls are actually really great dogs and can be super friendly
they aren't mean and aggressive like the media portrays them.

I don't have one but would love too.
It depends on how you treat them and train them.
I've seen some friendly pits and they're awesome dogs.

Your parents logic is flawed. Any dog can become a bad dog depending on how you treat it. Anybody can go out, buy a Chihuahua and turn it into a vicious attack dog (albeit it, it won't have anywhere near the strength as a Pit, but it can still be turned violent.) The reason Pit Bulls are used so much in dog fighting and seen as "violent" dogs is because they're stereotyped around people who will abuse them and turn them violent. Yes a Pit Bull has a strong jaw and biting power, but a German Shepherd and a Rottweiler are much stronger than it in terms of a bite and I would put more faith in a German Shepherd to more vicious than a Pit Bull however a Pitbull has a superior pain threshold over a German Shepherd. I also believe a German Shepherd and a Rottweiler would do more damage to a person if they attacked. I've seen a few videos of Pits attacking people and when they attack bigger people, they just bite, hold and grind their teeth; children they pretty much drag around but that's a given from their size. German Shepherd and Rottweilers when they attack they dig their teeth in and jerk their head around, tugging which tears much deeper.

I don't own a Pit Bull and I never will, I'm just not too big on Pits. I've raised and worked with East European Shepherds and German Shepherds my whole life. I've tried hunting with a friend's Pit Bulls before and it was the most infuriating thing I have ever witnessed. Dogs were great guard dogs with how they walked around my friend but they were just terrible when it came to running on uneven ground, became skittish when there was a new sound and at times would just take off running after one another. Where as the Shepherds never skipped a beat when it came to uneven ground, knew what they were doing and wouldn't get scared by noises. So a Pit Bull serves no use to me, and my East European Shepherds can do a better job at what I want them to do than a Pit. Hunting dogs and attack/guard dogs (I will say the Pit would handle pain better in the event of a dog is getting hurt from whatever.)

Anyways away from all that, your parents are freaking out over nothing. If you get a Pit puppy that is like 2-6 months old and raise it yourself nothing to worry about. Hell you can probably even adopt a Pit from a shelter that was used as a fighting dog (as long as it doesn't show aggression through the cage) since a lot of those just want a chance to not be abused and in that shitty situation again. I can't really say much that will change your parents mind, if their mind is set, doubt anything will change it, but if they believe only pits are aggressive then they can do a quick look around at dogs weighing no more than 10 pounds attacking people. Pit Bulls are also bred stupidly fast, I would argue most shelters are filled up with some Pit mix, so there's just more out there for the news to cover.
