Hey guys/gals,

I was wondering if anyone here has Sky Broadband (ISP in UK, for US People.) and was wondering also if anyone can help with an issue I've been having for a while with the router they supplied.

For the past few years, probably my router will disconnect the connection, and change the speed, or just completely reset the connection with sky themselves. This can happen at any time, usually it happens whilst I'm watching a TV Show on a mobile device, etc.

Thanks,
Inclusive.

P.S When I stated for the past few years, I don't control the ISP Bill, so I can't do anything regarding Sky themselves, I've also tried their Recovery Tool for their routers, but this did not seem to work either.

Sky is probably one of the worst ones to be with you do not get what you pay for as they cut your internet down if you are not using the full 75MBps or whatever it is.. i was told this by a BT engineer who used to work for sky.

Yeah, I've had to put up with Sky for the past 5-6 years I believe, and it's time I will never see again, with a different provider. I'm hoping to move again, and go with someone like Virgin Media or BT. #makemyinternetgreatagain

Also, I'm awaiting to see if anyone else has Sky and if they've had this issue, if they still have it, or if they've fixed it.

Helloooo there, where can I start haha...

I'm in the UK but with BT fibre. I have had the exact same problems with what you're having like literally. I have had countless amounts of BT engineers out to my house to look and diagnose problems, BT support told me to ping Google for 3 hours to see if the internet drops out at all LIKE WTF!!!

Because of the job I am in (IT Technician) I put up a fight with them as they told me countless times that my line was fine. After doing some research after physically looking inside my fibre cabnit in my local town, I discovered the cabinet was bottlenecked with the amount of connections going into it. I contacted BT and they said they will have a openreach engineer onsite to look at the cabnit and after a long 2 month battle I finally got my 60MBPS back!

SO:
1) Ring Sky up and ask for an intrusive line test.
2) Ask for an engineer to visit your local cabnit or you'll investigate yourself
3) Ask Sky to restart the exchange box in the cabnit (easily done)
4) Ping 8.8.8.8 (Google) for a while and see if it drops out, if it does send them a usage report and then play hell with them!

Hope the above helps, any more problems send me a PM

-Adam

And do you use Wireless or ethernet or both? Power cycle your router (which you've more than likely done)...

If you're using ethernet, try upgrading your ethernet cables to Cat6 if they're sitting on 4 or 5e.

Ask Sky to send out a replacement router (DON'T BUY YOUR OWN)

Thanks, AD4M for your replies. I use an Wireless Adapter to connect to my router, as a ethernet cable will not reach from room>room.

I have tried Sky's own router recovery tool, with multiple reboots, etc.

I will try the above, asking for an intrusive line test, thanks so much.
