Iv recently joking the gym and trying to loose weight, I am counting calories and eating healthy. At the gym if I want to loose 2stone in 5months should I just focus on cardio, or should I do weight training just as much? As I am new to this I have no idea what the best way for me to loose weight is.

Cardio, whatever makes you sweat most. Drink water, stay away from milk, sugar, protein shakes, etc.

Make sure to eat properly, all of the fat that the body puts on turns into muscle.

Lots of cardio and a well balanced diet you will slim down quick.
All I do is cardio workouts like running, I don't care about gains lmao.

Jog......jogging helps a lot on top of the gym... gym depending on what you doing is gonna be for your muscle gain depending on what you do in the gym

Running is the number one way to cut weight. It's not bad to gain muscle though.

Firstly, two stone in five months is a very realistic goal. That would give you 21.5 weeks from now until the 5 months is up and at a healthy weight loss of about 0.5 KG/week you would lose exactly five stone by that date.

If you're just starting the gym, stay away from weights and I'll explain why. When you first start lifting weights you'll experience what's called "noob gains" which is basically when you've never lifted weights before and your body goes into shock that your muscles are being broken down and rebuilt. This shock last about 8-12 months and you'll gain lots of strength and muscle mass in this period, which is very good. After your first year at the gym, your body understands that your lifting weights and it knows all the exercises and you wont gain muscle anywhere near as fast as you did in the first year.

Now, if you're lifting weights while eating healthy food (and more importantly in a caloric deficit) then it's impossible to build muscle. You're trying to lose weight which means that you wont be eating enough food to gain weight and muscle is weight. If you were to start lifting weights now, e.g bench press, squatting or dead-lifting then you wouldn't gain much strength or muscle mass because your diet isn't for weightlifting.

The best way for you to lose weight would be to eat in a caloric deficit of 300-500 and check your weight weekly to ensure that everything's going okay. Try to lose around 0.5KG per week and you'll be doing great, anything more than 1KG per week is extremely bad and you'll be losing muscle and fat at that rate. You don't need to do cardio, nor do you need to eat healthy to lose weight. Just ensure that you're in a caloric deficit, of course you can also add in cardio if you want too but it's not necessary.

For one good reason, you haven't gave enough information about your body type, metabolism, age, sex or any other important information that is needed when deciding the best way to lose weight.
Although a lot of this is good information that was given by other members, it's nearly impossible to give a educated answer with the limited information you provided.

First thing you need to do is prepare your body and get mentally ready to commit to a routine. The most important thing you can do is come up with a plan.

You should never commit to a set weight you want to lose, instead you should focus on being healthy mentally and physically.

If you want to PM me feel free. If not I'll give you a few things to help you get started on the right track.

Contrary to popular belief, you need to eat to lose weight (if you actually want to keep it off and stay healthy). Veggies are your best friend. STAY AWAY from processed foods. Drink WATER! When you stop eating or go long periods of time in a catabolic state it shocks your body and does more harm then good. You want to re train your bodys metabolism and jump start it again. Again, VEGGIES!

Over the next month I would suggest that you come up with a game plan. Set 3 goals, easy ones.

My first ones were, no more soda, no more cows milk (I drink unsweatened almond milk now) and veggies with EVERY meal.

3 years later, I drink soda sometimes, maybe 1 liter a week, I eat more veggies then anything else, I feel better then I ever have, and I've lost a ton of weight.

All on my own, I started small, met my goals, gained confidence to continue my journey.

It's not about how much you lose and how fast you can do it. It's about making better choices and getting healthy, and getting being content with yourself.

You can do this man! Setting some goals is the first step, no matter how small or stupid they might seem, just telling yourself you can do it is the first step.

Good luck man and I'll tell you what someone told me when I first started, when I was embarrassed and scared to go to the gym. "The only person you need to impress is yourself"

Now get out there, set some goals, and be the best you can be. Give it 100% and smash those goals, then do it again!! Good luck on your journey!

There's no "best way to lose weight" there's being in a caloric deficit or sugary. That's literally the only two ways humanely possible to lose weight. Either you get your arms and legs chopped off or you eat/exercise into a caloric deficit. There's no other way about it.

OP's gender isn't relevant, their age isn't relevent, their bodytype isn't relevent. All that matters is that they eat in a deficit of 300-500 calories per day and they will lose weight. It's like asking a car to drive 100 miles with enough fuel for 85 miles, it just isn't possible. The size of the car, type, colour or anything else doesn't matter aslong as you calculate the car's fuel consumption to the distance it travels.

OP has a diet already and he's asking if he should use weights or do cardio. He already has a plan.

That's just wrong, there's no disadvantage whatsoever to setting a goal and trying to achieve it. OP also asked how he should best go about losing weight, not getting mentally or physically healthy.

So, if I don't eat for two weeks, then I wont lose weight? That's just wrong. The reason you eat is because it loses weight at a slower rate and does less damage to your body, the less you eat the faster you lose weight.

Nobody told OP to starve himself. There's no reason at all to eat veggies over any other type of food, if anything OP should be eating as much lean meat as possible as to keep protein levels high and minimize muscle atrophy. Good luck telling OP to eat only vegetables and no protein.

I have no idea what you're on about. Your metabolism is based purely on your genetics and it isn't going to change massively until you're older. you certainly shouldn't be "jump starting" your metabolism or "retraining it".

That's good that you lost weight and you did it by stopping drinking soda and eating vegetables but please don't go recommending to OP that he only eats vegetables because that's just stupid. There's literally no protein in vegetables which is going to mean that he's giving his body little to no incentive to maintain his muscle mass. OP should be eating lean meat like chicken breasts everyday to try and keep as much muscle as possible when he's losing weight.

OP isn't asking to be healthy because it would take a 500 page long essay to describe to someone how to live a healthy life, they're asking how to lose weight. Don't tell him that our answers are useless when you're recommending that he eats only vegetables and then start saying how it's impossible to give an answer because we don't know his age and so on.

Cardio is the best thing you can do but I dont think theres any harm in doing some weight training too.
