Hi
Before we begin, Ill share my current [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

So my current setup has been running satisfactory in most if not all recent games, however I mostly play BF1 currently and my i5 4590 is pretty stressed. Im able to run it on ultra @ 50-60fps but after purchasing a 120hz monitor im looking to get my frames a bit higher. My GTX 980 is at about 60-70% utilization and the processor is obviously at its limit.

My dilemma is whether or not to stay on my 1150 socket mobo and upgrade to a i7 4790k or purchase a new mobo along with one of the 6th/7th gen i5's. I have been told by some BF1 will take advantage of the extra threads unlike older games but Im also thinking about longevity here, how long will the 4790k be able to perform very well in the latest upcoming games.

I have purchased a NZXT 340 enabling me to move to a water cooled setup in the future (I used to have this all jammed into a BitFenix Prodigy ), and so I could spice it up with the window and some RGB's lol, but mainly thinking ahead for an unlocked processor if I wish to overclock (which I have never done before)

My budget is around $300 USD, could go up to $350 if need be though.
I would love to hear if anyone has a similar issue/setup or could leave an opinion/suggestion pointing me in the right direction.

Im not 100% noob but this is only the second PC I have ever built myself, so be easy on me if I'm royally dropping the ball here. I know I probably spent more money than I had to, which is why Im now asking for some help

This is supposed to help my processor? I had BF1 on my current SSD, removed it and FPS/usage hadn't changed, only load times (the WD Black HDD loads me into games before matches even begin so I'm more than okay with that.)
I added another 8gb of ram for a total of 16 and it actually gained me 10-20 fps (and fixed some weird kind of micro-stutter) and helps especially toward the end of games where everything is destroyed, craters everywhere, etc. Though it only seems to help with high intensity multiplayer games.

I'm just saying as a general addition to add that, check your temps and lemme know what they are, more airflow in your case could help as well.

$300-350 isn't enough for a new motherboard and CPU. H97 motherboard means no overclocking so an unlocked CPU would be a waste. Watercooling is definitely illogical since you're not going to be overclocking anyway. The i5-4590 is still a very capable CPU. If anything, upgrade to a Xeon E3-1230/1231 V3.

The GTX 980 is holding you back more than the CPU. Use your $300-350 to invest towards a GTX 1070 and you'll be above 100FPS ez.

Pls don't do this, you'd be wasting your money.
