Torn between a 6gb gtx 1060 or a 8gb rx 480. In short which would be better, ive pretty much been reading that they are almost exactly the same with SLIGHTLY better performance on SOME games, but I mean at the end of the day in terms of longevity which is better for the price.

In my opinion you don't need 8GB but may I ask what is setting you back? Price?

I plan on keeping this card for a while so the 8gb doesnt seem too far fetched to me, the price isnt an issue considering they are not very far from each other price wise. But I just dont know which to pick, I always see conflicting thoughts on both cards and very strong opinions surrounding them and the debate between which is better. However a 480 is cheaper with more video memory and does the same thing as 1060 (atlesat I THINK) so im trying to figure out why people would want a 1060 over a 480.

eh wroteItd a hard one because if the 6GB is an NVIDIA one then it had some features Raedon does not. I know there's a guy on here that knows all this stuff so I suggest waiting for that guy.ZTG wrote In my opinion you don't need 8GB but may I ask what is setting you back? Price?

CPU isnt anything crazy, will upgrade in a few months but as of now I have an I5 3470 3.2ghz, im leaning more towards the 480 not for price but simply because that 8gb of vram seems like too good of a deal to pass up.

The VRAM is pretty irrelevant by itself. A lot of other things come in to play like memory bandwidth, etc etc. So there's really no reason to pay attention to the VRAM of a card since more isn't always better. For example, you can get a 4GB R7 240 which is basically trash, or you can get a 3GB 280X that would destroy the 240.
1060 vs 480, I'd take the 480 at this point. The 4GB 480 performs about on par with the 6GB 1060 now, so the 8GB 480 is a little better, and cheaper.
