I'm a novice computer builder and am working on my first project. I am looking for a mid to high tier gaming PC with a total cost, less peripherals and monitor, of around $1,500 - $1,700. I will be running one of the two VR systems available on the market. I'd like some feedback on the build below. If I can cut something back and not have a noticeable impact to performance, looking to get that insight. I believe I did my due diligence on compatibility, but if you see something that doesn't work, let me know. Too, are the extended warranties offered on Amazon on these components worth the expense? Looking forward to being a part of this forum for many years to come!

Everything seems to check out, although you mind be able to save some on the SSD, maybe get a smaller one? 250GB is good if you plan on recording, aswel as lots of gaming. Consider getting an 800w PSU aswel, though 650w will do you wont have to upgrade nearly as soon.
Just make sure your case will support the CPU fan, and GPU. Clearance can be a problem.
Good luck!

Get a better case, imo go with something from fractal other then that it seems solid. The 1080 seems like a waste to me, but to members like GT40 it wouldn't.

The main thing you want to check is if the psu is going to power all that and will it power any future upgrades you might look into? I'd cut back to the 1070 unless you plan to go to true 1440p gaming with a decent 1440p capable monitor as well.
I'd wait on 13 to comment with his input as he seems to be the most knowledgeable one on this site in terms of pc building.

Cooler is bad choice. PSU is fine, but you could do better. I feel like the RAM is over-priced. Poor choice of case, especially for an i7 and GTX 1070/1080 system. GTX 1080 is a total waste of money, and a terrible investment.
