Netflix released a trailer for a new series based off the idea "Dear White People." The show is an anti-white show by Justin Simien, and a lot of people are boycotting Netflix because of this.
What do you guys think about this? No matter what race you are, I think most people can understand that this is very controversial, and if they made a show called "Dear Black People", it would be considered extremely racist.

Definitely agree with it saying if there was one called, "Dear Black People" everybody would be offended. Actually pretty disturbing that Netflix is allowing the film to be named that. I can understand them wanting to keep the movie, but it's a Netflix Original, they have all the power to change the title.
After going to Youtube to look at the video ratings itself it's pretty obvious that a lot of people are pissed off about it.

I can see why, its controversial, and its bringing attention to a subject that has been a controversial one for the last 200 years. It's gaining negative attention but I think Netflix is either trying to just gain publicity or bring racism to the forefront of media.

I understand that fighting against the ideologies of ideologues is important, but boycotting is what they do - it isn't what sane people who just want to have a good conversation do.
What happened when the far left criticized Trump after a stage play? The far right boycotted the company.
What happened when the far right decided that they weren't going to serve homosexuals at certain restaurants? The far left boycotted those places.
And throughout both of these events what were normal people doing? Having a discussion about it.
Boycotting is just another way of saying "I'm offended" and that is exactly what everyone accuses the far left of saying too much.
It's just a movie. I'm an atheist and I didn't get angry when Nicholas Cage made his movie about the rapture. I'm white and I'm not going to get angry about this.
I can laugh at it and think it's stupid, but it's not going to make me cancel my Netflix and miss out on all of the other content they make and have on offer.

The irony is miles thick.
The same people who call liberals snowflakes and triggered wussies are the ones who are so butthurt over a show that they're canceling their netflix subscriptions.
Who gives a shit.

Good, there is no need to start a race thing on netflix. Surely this has to be a thing for netflix to increase profit right? And think about this, If it were "Dear Black People" Black people would be going nuts claiming racism and what not

I don't think Netflix really has an agenda to push here.
Netflix has made Dear White People, yes, but it has also made House of Cards.
House of Cards is about a Republican congressman who is set up as the wronged protagonist who will do anything in his power to become President.
This show portrays liberals as easily manipulated bloggers who will ignore their own principles if pushed hard enough and really as obstacles in the way of true progress.
Would we say that Netflix was pushing a political agenda by making this show or just trying to stir up controversy to increase their ratings?
They are entertainers and they will make whatever they think is going to be popular. They might have misfired here but I think this show is going to have excellent ratings specifically because of all the backlash against it.
Just before Rogue One was released it was leaked that the writers hated Donald Trump. Trump supporters decided to boycott the film and make a big deal about it on Twitter. Rogue One turned out to be the highest grossing film of 2016.
The play Hamilton was also boycotted by right wingers and their ticket sales rose massively because of the extra publicity they got.
I would never have heard about this show being made if it weren't for people complaining about it and now I might watch it just to see what it's like.
Boycotting draws attention to things, it's the most counterproductive form of protest.
