If a member is being abusive in a completely uncalled for way towards you in the shoutbox (Use common sense here, just because someone called you a name is no need to sound the alarms, however someone saying "I'm glad your nan died" is obviously unnecessary and unneeded) then make sure you get a screenshot of any kind of shouts and take it to a staff member. However this isn't a after school special we're running so don't take things too personal, not everything is always sunshine and rainbows. I sit in the shoutbox a lot but this doesn't mean I'm constantly reading shout and keeping up to date on it, so things do get past us.
We've had issues with members (seems to be the same handful of them) taking things too far and trying to pull the banter card. We are very aware of what is acceptable and what is not acceptable. The shoutbox should be a place for lighthearted fun not edgy harassment. Staff have different opinions of what should and shouldn't be allowed but the bottom line for everyone is that members shouldn't have to worry about if they're going to be harassed by some internet badass.
Edit: Also just rambling my own opinion here, a big issue in the shoutbox is the whole "They're doing it why shouldn't I" mindset of new users becoming shoutbox regulars. What I mean by this is that users who are spending more and more time in the shoutbox see users with special ranks, or members that are popular, etc, going too far with their jokes and just being dicks, so they see this as the cool thing to do. Which just kind of breeds a whole new generation of assholes to deal with.
TL;DR, yes this is abuse but don't take it personal this is the internet some people take things too far and if it's brought to our attention we will gladly look into it, shoutbox should be fun but not a free for all

I think you need to get some thicker skin. If you offended on the internet, you are probably too easily offended. If it sucks your nan is dead and all but come on, no need to take anything seriously. Like just ignore it. Like one of my good mates killed himself but I don't cry or get offended when people tell me to kill myself online. because i can separate online and real life.
It's the internet. No one cares about your life or family because you are faceless. You are just a username.

So true man. You know I'll take part of the blame on that one cause I do like to play around a lot in the shoutbox and I do get goofy and it probably rubs off on people wrong. But its getting so boring in there lately it feels. Not as many active users anymore, and all the older and popular members dont care about us, we dont have anything to do

Don't judge a book by its cover you never really know what a person is personally going thought and how your negative comment could really hurt a person. I bet its nice living in the emotionally numb mind of yours.

ahh yes emotionally numb mind, because I haven't had hard times in my life. I just don't let people on the internet get to me because why should they. They don't know me and I don't know them why should I care what they think. Being told to kill yourself and that you are worthless by someone online that you have never met nor will meet is a bit different then having a parent say that to you.
But yes I must be emotionally numb because I don't cry over the internet.

I don't condone it, i am being realistic. People are gonna be mean, people are gonna say not nice things on the internet. No point getting caught up in it and getting offended and depressed about it. Live you life. Don't worry about some guys on the internet say.

GiveMeRep4free wroteYeah I understand that people are going to say offensive things but you have to understand there are different people with different emotions out there maybe i just get more emotional then you that does not make it a bad thing, yes i did get my feelings hurt when someone said that but why is that such a bad thing i think its logic to be upset if someone said something like that to me irl or online because to me i still feel that that's a real person really thinking like that which is i don't know how to word it sick i guess.IPv6 wroteGiveMeRep4free wroteIm not saying that you have not had hard times yourself you said that in your comment that you have im just saying why spread hate I was in the hospital dying and my own mother never once come to visit me in the hospital and the funny part about it was that my parents live together its not like they were separated we have both been though sh*t the only point im trying to make here is that why condone staying nasty shit to people online what purpose does it possess? please explain?IPv6 wroteGiveMeRep4free wrote I think you need to get some thicker skin.
