I personally seem to have more control over my dreams when I wake up in the middle of the night and use the bathroom or something then when I go back to sleep I can control them a bit more easily.
I assume it's because I'm mad tired and I was just awake but pretty much half asleep using the bathroom. May be just me though.

Keep a dream journal that you update every time you wake up, so you remember your experiences in your dreams.

Ive been able to lucid dream since i was a little boy, idk how i do it but mid dream i can recognize it. The best thing is to take notes on shit that you saw in your dreams. You will see them again and it might pull you forward.

I am actually going through a program right now that deals with lucid dreaming so I can help you with this.
What you want to start off doing is reminding yourself that you are awake through the day. It helps if you set and alarm to go off like 5 times a day on your phone and put a note on the alarm to remind yourself to stay awake. Do this for a couple weeks and then start to set alarm with the same tone to wake you up during the night. You want to trigger yourself to wake up in your 4th stage of non-rem sleep that way you have a higher chance of going into that rem sleep faster. (rem sleep is where all your dreams happen)
Lucid dreaming doesn't work for most people that try to do it but if you allow yourself to start to recognize your state of consciousness, then you have a higher chance of being able to somewhat control your dreams
