However, when you understand how to make a proper logo and understand how to design using grid construct you will improve your logo design.

MechRange. Not every logo has to be a perfect representation of the real thing. If you asked all the people in the world what they thought the logo was of, I would guarantee 90%+ would say it was an octopus/squid.
