So I'm looking at either grabbing a 1080Ti when they are available or just upgrading to a 7700K.

My question is what would be the wisest choice? I play at 1440P @ 144Hz and currently have 2 GTX 970's in SLI. I would like to just stick a 1080Ti in there but I don't know if my CPU would hold it back.

The 3570k is an older chip and will bottleneck both of the cards at some point, after all it does bottleneck the 980/980ti.

If you can find a well priced 3770k, that would be an easier/cheaper upgrade than a 7700k and will offer pretty similar performance so you could do that if you wanted. Whether or not the 3570k will be a bottleneck, depends on what you're doing with the system. It will be a bottleneck in Watch Dogs 2, but not The Witcher 3. Don't get a Titan X. If anything, get the 1080Ti.
