My personal choice would be go for a Ryzen 7-1700X.

I7 7700k if your motherboard supports the 7000 series. I7 6700k if it does not.

You mentioned that its mainly for gaming so stick to Intel. If you are going to overclock look at the i7 7700k. You will need to buy a new motherboard which allows OC though as your current one does not so it would be a waste purchasing an unlocked CPU on a locked motherboard.

Correct, your current motherboard does not allow OC so you will need a motherboard does allow it. 7700k goes well with pretty much any Z270 motherboard, allows OC.
