So for the past week or so my GPU would artifact anytime I boot down my system, but really only then. Gaming is fine, watching videos and managing files is completely stable and there are no issues. Any time I either restart or hard reboot though I get crazy checkerboard-like artifcating almost as if my GPU is on a bad overclock (had something similar happen to me on my other card and it was corrected by turning down my OC). Sometimes it happens on the login screen as well but that seems to be more at random.

It's an MSI Gaming X RX 480 4GB that's factory OC'd to 1303mhz and I just got it about a week and a half ago. No additional settings were touched before this happened. I've tried uping the power limit thinking maybe it wasn't getting enough to provide for the factory boost and even downclocking it to reference clock speeds, but to no avail. I'm a little wary about letting it continue on and seeing if it somehow corrects itself, I have about 2 weeks~ to get an exchange or a refund, but I'd rather not have to commute two cities over to bring it back to Microcenter. In the mean time, I'm running off my older GPU and it's been fine even with a moderate overclock.

Specs as of about a week ago:

I also have an EVGA 600w 80+ White Rated PSU. It's far from top tier but it hasn't given me any problems before on other cards.

I'm running on the 17.3.3 ReLive drivers, not sure if they're somehow conflicting with something else.

Would appreciate alternate opinions.

Try turning down your OC. Also do what I told you to do in the SB.

It was factory OC'd so I would assume it's a stable up clock. Like I said in the OP though I already tried setting it to the factory clock speed for the reference 480s and that still didn't fix it. It's just a very odd situation considering it never happens when gaming or doing anything else. Also as for the driver sweep, I did that -- still has the issue. Only thing I haven't done is completely fresh installed Windows but I'd rather save that as a last resort.

Try reseating your card. clean the contacts and check your power inputs. RMA perhaps. Contact your manufacturer.

Mine did this too and screen was flashing, got 40 fps in arma 3. I sent it back were i bought i from and changed to my old radeon 6850 hsi 1gb and got 60-fps in the game.

There is a batch of Rx 480 cards that are corrupted/dead. You may have gotten one.

I thought the dead cards were reference 480s? It would be great if I didn't have to drive two cities away to return my card

You should have voltage, and a few other controls in afterburner, lower the clock speed a bit like mentioned above.
