So im trying to lose weight and im in the gym for 2-2 1/2 hours of non stop moving doing cardio. I've asked some people and im getting mixed answers. Some are saying thats too long and others are saying that i should be doing a little bit more. My question is , is this a good amount of time for being in the gym doing nonstop cardio. Now i normally take maybe a 2 minute break in between some of the machines i use. Any input is appreciated!

I have recommend Motivational multiple times on topics like these since he is the best on this subject and it always seems that the user with the question is satisfied with the answer they get from him!

I personally think that might be too much time spent on strictly cardio but I really don't know. You should also include weight lifting even if it is just basic because that will help also! Diet is also huge for this. You have to be feeding your body the right foods to notice a change.

Like I said before though, Motivational is the best!!

In my opinion it is too long. Cardio is great for your health but doing too much of it can hurt you. I would suggest calculating your tdee to see your maintenance calories then slowly dropping calories from there. (upwards of 500 or more calories if you need to lose a lot of weight) just remember to drop calories at a slow and decent pace as it messes with your metabolism if you don't. I would recommend doing HIIT for fat loss which takes around 10-15 minutes to burn upwards of 100 calories or more. Also doing MIIT for 40-60 minutes helps lose weight and burn fat too. Just eat well and you should be good to go.

The best cardio in MY opinion, that helps with fast fat reduction is speed interval training. This is where you sprint for let's say 30 seconds, jog for 30 seconds, and repeat. Normally, treadmills in gyms have this option where you can just press a button that will switch to your sprint speed and your jog speed so you don't waste energy on manually pressing the speed button. Do this for about 20 minutes each day you will be fine. Again, your diet is about 80% of losing weight so keep this in mind:

    No sugar
    Cut unnecessary carbs (if possible cut altogether, but I would suggest to take it slow before cutting in completely)
    Caloric deficit
    Drink plenty of water



If you stick with that diet, and constantly to speed interval training you will be losing weight at a faster pace than normal. Some people suggest doing cardio fasted meaning you run on an empty stomach (so morning runs) because you are burning calories that you have not even consumed yet. If you also workout I do my interval training AFTER the workout because I feel as if I would be too tired to do my lifts if I ran before. Just hmu in the pm's if you wanna ask me anything else bro. EDIT: Running in a fasted state, you might be less energized, so if you have trouble with that get some food in you before you go for that run.

Losing weight is completely dependent upon your diet. You could do two or three hours of cardio per day and still gain weight if you were eating enough food to be in a caloric surplus.

2 hours of cardio would burn a lot of calories though, the amount of calories you burn is going to vary with the activities that you're doing but it's probably in the range of 400-600 calories per hour if you're mainly doing running/jogging. The 1000+ calories burned by cardio, along with your TDEE which is probably going to be around 2000 calories means that you're going to need to be eating 3000+ calories to not lose weight. Considering you're actually trying to lose weight then I'd imagine that you're not eating a lot of food and in a huge caloric defecit.

Being in a huge defecit will mean that you'll lose a lot more muscle instead of fat and you'll just lose weight faster in general. We can't really answer your question properly without knowing your weight and diet. You can do as much cardio as you like but if your diet is messed up then you wont lose weight.

If you want to do that much cardio then it's totally up to you though,

i shouldve specified my diet, heres the link to the diet that im trying [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

i know that the gym is only about 30% of weight loss and the diet is 70%(depending on who you ask, but everyone will say diet is the most important) so im not neglecting the diet.

if you are trying to lose weight i would suggest fasted cardio since it takes all the energy that stored in you fat and burns that instead of whatever you ate before running

Sounds to me like your relying on cardio mainly to help you drop weight, but the amount of time in the gym doesn't really matter, you'd be best increasing the intensity of whatever cardio your doing.

Im assuming it isn't very intense if you manage to do for 2 hours.

If you're wanting to drop weight/ bodyfat I would read into the keto diet, because at the end of the day you can't out train a bad diet.
