Looks like it was done in retaliation for chemical warfare conducted by the Syrian regime.

WASHINGTON (AP) The United States fired a barrage of cruise missiles into Syria Thursday night in retaliation for this week's gruesome chemical weapons attack against civilians, U.S. officials said. It was the first direct American assault on the Syrian government and Donald Trump's most dramatic military order since becoming president.
The surprise strike marked a striking reversal for Trump, who warned as a candidate against the U.S. getting pulled into the Syrian civil war, now in its seventh year. But the president appeared moved by the photos of children killed in the chemical attack, calling it a "disgrace to humanity" that crossed "a lot of lines."
About 60 U.S. Tomahawk missiles, fired from warships in the Mediterranean Sea, targeted an air base in retaliation for a chemical weapons attack that American officials believe Syrian government aircraft launched with a nerve agent, possibly sarin.
The president did not announce the attacks in advance, though he and other national security officials ratcheted up their warnings to the Syrian government throughout the day Thursday.

"Trump will be the president of peace."
Also, there is no proof anyone in particular did it. So technically, this is an act of war against Syria.
It'll be odd to see what's to come in the next few days.

It's going to be a further shit show at this point.
I'm waiting for ISIS to start running their mouth making claims about having some sort of involvement in this; like they do with every attack that happens around the world. Which will equal further airstrikes and missile strikes within Syria.
Tillerson said Assad's fate was up to the Syrian people, now apparently there are steps underway to oust Assad after blaming him for this attack. That I think would be a fatal mistake looking back at the power vacuum that got out of control once Saddam and Gaddafi were killed.
After the missile strikes in Syria, Assad could easily pull the act of war card and even go as far to call for any aircraft in his country to be shot down since I believe everyone else other than Russia was asked to come into the fight against ISIS.
I just seriously don't see a single shred of hope for Syria anymore. Either the war rages on to dictate Assad's fate, Assad is killed and a new power vacuum starts up again with extremist groups or everyone pulls out of Syria, letting them deal with things themselves and Syria wipes out most of it's own people killing ISIS and people against Assad. Turkey would also easily invade once Assad is removed to get rid of any Kurdish people in Syria.
All through this, Europe is going to continue to have to deal with the burden of having mass refugees flooding their countries and dealing with refugees throwing riots when things don't go their way, ect. ect.

Assad violated international law and threatens Americas security. This action also sends a message to other foreign powers such as North Korea.

I don't think anyone would take North Korea seriously anyways, I mean, how many years have they kept saying they were going to nuke you guys and then suddenly shut up after getting some sort of finical aid? South Korea is the only one that needs to worry about North Korea but even then North Korea wouldn't last long at all if they started a war and their "allies" wouldn't come to their aid if North Korea provoked a war; even China and Russia get annoyed with North Korea's bullshit temper tantrums.

If anyone disagrees with trumps decision to air strike the airfield that fired the chemical weapons that was used against the Syrian people and mostly children, I want you to go to CNN and look at the photos of the children that died and more that suffered from this Syrian attack and not just children, Syrian civilians are also among the dead and injured! Familys also are affected by the loose of loved ones! I agree with trumps decision because the Syrian civil war has spanned more than 4 years claiming more than 400,000 lives and millions more fleeding their homes due to the war! Yes Russian personal were at the airfield and were part of the casualtys of the US air strikes but reports read that they were warned of the imminent attack! US also has to wait and see how Russia responds to the airstrikes but the Syrian chemical attack on its own people was ruthless and something needs to be done about Assad before more harm is done!
