I've been wanting to start learning more about actually building a PC from scratch without help picking parts and my brother has been asking me about one.
I threw this one together:
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Is there anything I've done awfully etc? He didn't say a budget but he wanted it to run newer games at high settings. (talking about games like civ 6 etc).
How is it? I would replace the RX 470 with this [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] since it is the same price for a better card but I couldn't see it on PCPartPicker yet.
The reason it is better than the recommended for civ 6 is because he also wanted it so he wouldn't have to upgrade any time soon and so if he wanted he could at least try more heavier games.

Hey something i think you could do to improve your build is not buy 2 1tb hardrives and instead just buy 1 2tb hard drive soon the prices will drop i got my 3tb for 60 pounds so just wait for prices to drop then u could spend the extra money on a different graphics card something a little bit more powerful also look on the part sites such as amazon , scan theres alot and same for the ram soon the ram is going to drop roughly i think about next month then just buy 1 bundle of 16gb ram and instead of paying so much for the cpu make sure your getting a better graphics card because most of the time that is what your depending on to run games and u could get a cpu like the i5 7600k 218 pounds and 3.8 GHz quadcore on amazon then put that extra money on something better for the gpu maybe like a 1060 6gb

I'm not too thingy about sales. I dont have a clue when he is going to be getting the computer so I'm just working with basics. And yeah, he said he wanted two hard drives for some reason but he also said about his old pc that has a hard drive we can use so could just buy one 1tb instead.

I'm definitely not that best with PC, but that's a decent build. Let me know how it turns out!

What is your budget (range for him)?
Aesthetics?
Main use?
Do you have a monitor?
Any peripherals needed?
Overclocking?
You're over paying for two 1tb drives, and the 470 wouldn't make much sense as it is par to the 1050 ti.
Case and PSU are pretty bad for their prices.

Not sure what he wants it looking like (that's why I also put that case. It's the one I had but I'm sure he'd want another. also not sure his budget. he asked me for a price so I just put this together as an estimate really.
Main use would just be gaming and nothing else like monitors etc are needed since he already has them. And I doubt he will be overclocking. And like I said in a previous reply, he already has one hard drive so i'd probably remove one and they are also just stand ins until I look around for more. I also said I will be replacing the 470 with 570 when it's on pcpartpicker

Total: £751.26
This sits just around the ~£800 mark.
Ryzen will suit this better, and is the budget king right now, overclocking or not it is always nice to have the option there for the future if anything..
Reuse the old HDD and if he really wants to, buy a new 2tb drive they're about ~£50 grab it while it is cheap. Assuming aesthetics weren't a thing, just went with a closed small case, and semi modular PSU to make things kinda neat in there.
The 480 and the 570 are par, and only a 1-5% performance increase not worth the premium for that at all right now wait for the lower end models and maybe it will be appropriate but not now.
If you wanted to save a little more you could go with a even lower end case, and swap out the 1600 for a 1400, and easily save yourself ~£100 just doing that. Buying two sticks of ram that would cost more then a two pack didn't make much sense..
Would be nice to know what games in specific, but that isn't entirely needed as Ryzen shows it can handle most fairly well.

What? Where are you getting this information from?
Dashii wrote I dont have a clue when he is going to be getting the computer
So, this is useless then. If he's not buying within the next week or two, prices are pretty much guarantee'd to change.
Mitochondria wrote and the 470 wouldn't make much sense as it is par to the 1050 ti.
Um, no. The 470 handily beats the 1050Ti. The 470 matches the 3GB 1060 in performance, easily.
Mitochondria wrote Case and PSU are pretty bad for their prices.
Case is overpriced, sure, but the PSU is good.
Mitochondria wrote Ryzen is the budget king right now
Nope, Pentium G4560 still holds that title.
Mitochondria wrote The 480 and the 570 are par
No? 570 is a refreshed 470. 580 is a refreshed 480.
Also, stop recommending 2133MHz and 2400MHz RAM with Ryzen. Even 2666MHz is pretty slow.
