I'm 17 and live in Florida... getting my license soon and I will be driving my father's '99 crown vic LX (She's a beauty) as much as I love this car, I am wanting a 4x4 for my first vehicle because I already know that I'm going to wanna go trail riding with the bro's, also so can tote a toy around if I decide to get one down the line... my limit is around $4500-5 and no my father is not buying it for me, I am going to be working full time over the summer @ $10/hr at a tire shop in town.

Some trucks I've been looking at
ford ranger
chevy s10
89-97 f150
d21 hardbody toyota
dodge dakota

I am not looking for something with a massive ass engine though I love me a nice V8, I'm young and don't wanna have to pay $150 for gas everyweek... I work on vehicles alot so I mean, I'm not clueless to maintenance and light repairs, I also depending on the timeframe have access to a lift. I am looking for something around the 4.7L< engine size. I have been searching craigslist for months looking to see whats readily available in my area. If you guys have any ideas I may have over looked please let me know, it'll be a few months but I wanna buy my own vehicle so I don't have to drive my dad's car and constantly worry about getting into an accident with such a beautiful car.

Build a ranger,

When I was 16 i bought a stock ranger and have built prerunner 4 years later. I am still working on it, but it is my pride and joy, If you are into it, i would say do it, plus you will pull tons of girls(; TRUST ME ON THE GIRL PART. It isnt a cheap route, but you can walk away with a lot of expirence in the fabrication industry, thats where it has put me. All around a ford ranger is an easy build, fun, and badass build, I would post a pic but i dont know how lol

the build started from the 3l, I have build a custom long travel kit up front, pulls 17 inches of useable wheel travel, and giant motor sports link killer leaf setup in the rear, pulls 20 inches of useable wheel trainvel. full cage front to rear, LSX motor with a built th400 trans 700+ hp, radiator, trans cooler, wiring, all moved to the back

That sounds absolutely legendary. Could your upload some pictures to imgur or photobucket?

I never liked 1/4 ton trucks because they are pretty much a car with a truck bed. I do know that you can get a nice 97-03 F-150 in that range and they are super easy to work on as well as they ride really good because of the torsion bar front suspension. My first truck was a '97 F-150 and i was pretty happy with it.
