Hi Guys, im completely new to the PC building scene.

I currently have a budget of about £500 and im looking to build a PC myself.

Here is what i have so far (I have already got the case): [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Im looking to play games such as GTA, Call of Duty etc on this, however i will have the funds to upgrade to an i5 in a few months.

Does the current build i have here look okay to play the games i have mentioned? If not could you change the build around so it will, and try to keep to my budget of £500. If something can be changed for something better then please do

Thanks in advance!!!!

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ] / [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

CPU: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] (£151.65 @ CCL Computers)
Motherboard: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] (£71.89 @ CCL Computers)
Memory: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] (£63.60 @ Aria PC)
Storage: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] (£48.82 @ BT Shop)
Storage: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] (£37.99 @ Aria PC)
Video Card: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] (£74.89 @ More Computers)
Case: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] (£0.00)
Power Supply: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] (£48.36 @ Ebuyer)
Total: £497.20

Since you already have the case? This will be riding your budget as prices shift, and will perform better then that i3, and sub par to a few of the newer i5's.

Would've helped to know what your monitor is, and if you need any peripherals (keyboard, mouse, headphones ETC)

My monitor is the one i currently use for my PS4 so its not important at the moment, just the best quality i can get for the price. My friend has a sponsorship so he can get peripherals for me so they aren't important either.

Im a bit of a noob so could you just clarify, the i3 has a speed of 3.7ghz however the one you posted is only 3.2, shouldn't it be slower?

Also, is there a need for an SSD and internal HDD?

The thing is though, he will be picking up a i5 in a few months, So if he gets a motherboard with a AMD socket, he wont be able to upgrade and get the 15, so its a good build but the motherboard I think you should go with your original one with the i3 so that you can make the change to the i5 when you have the money.

A lot of people recommend the Ryzen 5 1400 because it has 4 cores and 8 threads, and lets say you get the i5-7400 which cost the same as the ryzen 5 1400; The i5 has 4 cores and 4 threads but when it comes to gaming, and graphics the i5 Trumps the Ryzen processor by about %15 in both categories, but the Ryzen processor will beat the i5 when it comes to like a workstation build which you arent doing that.

But in all honnesty, I would spend the extra $100 and get Core i5-7600k when you upgrade to the i5, Its a great processor and will out perform the Ryzen processor by about %30 when it comes to gaming/graphics.

SSD loads everything and boots much faster then an HDD. Ryzen has a higher C/T (core/thread and all chips are overclockable to 4.0ish) count then the i3, and clock speed doesn't make much of a difference the R5 series is directed at intels i5's.

He never said he had the i3 only the case, read the topic and towards the bottom you will notice.

Notice towards the top he also said

Here is what i have so far (I have already got the case)

So we can't exactly know what he has in general other then a parts list and a case.

Monitor does matter as we need to know your resolution. Are you playing on 720p, 1080p, 1440p, ect.

The Ryzen won't be slower because it's 3.2 GHz where as the i3 is 3.7 GHz; the i3 is a dual-core CPU meaning only 2 cores and 4 threads where as the Ryzen is a quad-core meaning 4 cores and 8 threads. The i3 will be slightly better at single core performance and maybe energy savings if you care about that, but multi-core performance is blown away by that specific Ryzen chip. Paired with the fact that Mitochondria included 3000 MHz of RAM, will help the Ryzen CPU excel even further. Having a better clock speed doesn't always mean that's the best CPU, different CPUs fit a different person's needs; if it worked like that, X99 CPUs with 6 cores and only 3.3 GHz or even in the extreme case 10 cores at 3.0 GHz would be obsolete when compared to LGA-1151 sockets at 4 cores and 3.8 GHz or even 4.2 GHz.

Depends what i5 he is getting. He can say he's getting an i5 and it could arguably be worse than the Ryzen 5 1400. If he's getting an i5-6600k or a 7600k then it would make sense to me to go back to the LGA-1151 socket, but even then I would argue OP could still get a Ryzen 1500x or 1600 for cheaper and still getting great performance with faster multi-core clock speeds. Either way, if he can get the i5 for cheaper, then I would say go for that, if he's trying to save a budget and either Ryzen chips are cheaper for him, then he needs to work around that.

Thanks for the epic replies guys!

With respect to what you have all said and to suit my current needs, i have come up with this: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Im not looking at doing anything heavy at all, i have another laptop that i will do everything else on, this PC is 100% for gaming and Gaming only.

Thanks for the help!

??? Even the RX 560 loses to the GTX 1050, never mind an RX 550.

No, that's not how it works. You don't compare clock speed of CPUs with two completely different architectures. The R5 1400 with the B350 chipset can be overclocked, and most people are reaching 3.9/4GHz. The i3 can not be overclocked. The R5 also has two more physical cores, and 4 more threads.

EatOreos wrote The thing is though, he will be picking up a i5 in a few months, So if he gets a motherboard with a AMD socket, he wont be able to upgrade and get the 15, so its a good build but the motherboard I think you should go with your original one with the i3 so that you can make the change to the i5 when you have the money.

Or he could just go with the R5 1400 which will perform similarly to a locked i5 in games anyway, but better than an i5 in the majority of multi-threaded tasks.

An i5 won't out-perform an R5 at all with "graphics" in a gaming system since you'd be using a dGPU. Ryzen doesn't have an iGPU anyway. An i5-7600k absolutely 100% is not 30$ faster than an R5 1400 in gaming, that's a blatant lie. R5 1400 will out-perform an i5-7400 in the majority of games. Also, it would be moronic for OP to upgrade to an i5-7600k if he bought the system he was looking at, since he'd have a B250 chipset motherboard.

ConnorYTblogger wrote With respect to what you have all said and to suit my current needs, i have come up with this: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Nope, that's still bad. Definitely don't get an RX 550. Even the GTX 1050 is pretty low end for this budget, never mind the RX 550. Do not get an i3. Pentium G4560 pretty much rendered i3's obsolete.

Forums/t=7704413/163500-gaming-pc...nitor.html

Same advice as there. Except swap the case for the one you already have, obviously. Also, get a Z170 or Z270 chipset motherboard if you go with the G4560 and are planning on upgrading to a 6600k/7600k.
