I recently tried to clean the dust off my xbox 360 power supply by opening it up and removing the dust. Now when I turn on my xbox360 the power supply gets very hot. We're talking about 90C/194F here, scorching hot to the touch.

- I have removed the dust that was clogged inside, including dust from the fan.
- Problem: when prying open the power supply some of the thermal paste came off on my skin

Now, I don't know why the power supply is this hot. I don't know if it's because of the games I'm playing or because I incorrectly remounted it back together.
Should I re-apply thermal paste? Any ideas on this one?

I would take it apart and see whats going on this shouldnt happen at all could be its not transfering the heat therefore not properly cooling

First check: it smells burnt.

Ok I spread a bit of the remaining thermal paste around but it still gets very hot. I'll have to buy new thermal paste and try again.

I tested if the fan inside the PSU would move at all and.. it doesn't. It doesn't move, even though its cord is plugged into the motherboard. However, the cord seems to be a bit blown up.. it has a flat molten piece of the cord somewhere along the way, showing a bit of its insides.

I must probably test with a multimeter if it's the motherboard or the cable not giving current...
