Take roids lol Nah don't do that, I have and definitely not worth it. Just eat eat and eat more. But eat healthy, eat lots of eggs in the morning with turkey sausage, then a protein shake, then for lunch and dinner eat chicken breast with greens and rice (Can be brown or white) have another protein shake with lunch or dinner. If you are like me and protein shakes don't fill you up eat quest bars. They are amazing source of protein with low sugar and carbs. Then in between all that eat oranges, bananas and apples to help get other nutrients. When lifting work your butt off, do super sets or triple sets. Don't listen to bull crap of over training. Train smart, get technic down, stretch and eat healthy. You will gain size. Also peanut butter is a great protein cheat snack. and if you ever need ideas for lifting just look up Arnold schwarzenegger he is the best for a reason. Even made a lifting bible.

Sounds like its hard for him to gain weight, if he eats 100% Clean foods then it will only be the same result of staying the same weight.... You need to be eating food sources that have high calories such as bagels, muffins, carbs are your friend when trying to gain weight!!!

He should gain weight from eating clean, he just has to work out and force his body to take in more protein. It may take longer to really notice actually weight but it will be lean muscle and he will be shredded. Carbs definitely are good for putting on weight but its fat. But then again I'm not certain what he is really trying to achieve. So i guess like you said eat more carbs, pastas, potatoes, muffins and get after it! You will gain weight one way or another, you just gotta work for it.

Excess protein stores just turn into carbohydrate storage anyway, might as well just get carbs from other food sources that way he can access the energy from the carbohydrates faster and not risk turning to fat storage.

Carbs only turn to fat stores if you don't use the energy from the sources you eat. And if hes lifting regularly the carbs will be put to use to build more muscle, not fat!!!

Had my best results of gains after mixing in some creatine with my protein shakes. If you take creatine make sure you stay hydrated as it takes water from your body and places it in the areas where you are working out. It gives you fast results, a big visual increase and some say energy too! Basically adds some water weight to your muscles and makes them increase in size.

First you would want to calculate your tdee to find your maintenance calories. After that you should eat around 150-250 calories above leaving room to increase it once you plateau. I wouldn't really recommend mass gainers since they are unhealthy and just lead to excess fat gain. Try to eat as clean as possible to minimize fat gain and keep lean mass up. Dirty bulking works strength wise and muscle hypertrophy wise but makes you look horrible afterwards and creates more work for you for when you have to cut. Take your time and if so include iifym into your diet. Good luck!
