I work at Advanced Auto Parts. During the first few months, I had about 20-24 hours a week (this is a part time job). During the past few months, my hours have been reduced to 10-13 hours.

Also, the store hasn't been doing very good with sales. For example, today the store was meant to sell $11,000 and all it made was $6,000.

I'm scared of the store shutting down and being out of my part time job since I enjoy making money the way that I do.

The question is: Do I start searching for another job? Or do I wait it out and see what happens?

10 hours isn't even enough to snap your fingers comfortably unless you're making at least $50 an hour

All stores have slow times and you need to figure out why. Is the weather bad in your area? People tend not to work on their vehicle while a hurricane is due.

Are there other competitive auto parts stores in your immediate area? Is there a lack of new merchandise in your store? Is there a lack of general merchandise in your store?

Generally speaking right now is a tough time for stores like auto stores because school just got out so people are saving up for graduation presents, trips, etc.

As far s weather to quit or not, I would talk to your employer about it. Don't say you're worried about the stores performance, but say with the hours they're giving you, you can't live and your struggling to make it which is starting to force you to look for either a second job or a different job. Ask them if they see anything you can improve upon for your performance as an employee. This puts the ball in their court, if they want to keep you they will find work for you. If they don't want to keep you then nothing will change. People say this is a dumb idea to talk to a boss this way, but I'm a firm believer in treating the janitor the same as the CEO. What I mean by that is communication should be open no matter what their position is in the food chain there.

The weather over here in Puerto Rico isn't bad during the summer and today was a pretty good day weather-wise.

Now that you say that, there's an Autozone right across the street and a Pep Boys just down the street. I don't know how those stores match up to our store but yeah.

I've been told by several of my co-workers to talk to my boss, I've already done it once but it seems like my hours are staying at 13 per week and I also always get the two same days (Sundays: 9:30-6:30, Mondays: 4:00-9:30).

Nothing wrong with having multiple jobs.

If you enjoy working at Advanced then keep it and pick up something else.

I've done the multiple job thing and it blows, much rather just go full time, if that is an option for you. I would try to find something else and then put in your two week notice, don't just quit because then you will be unable to return working there if things go south. Also, if I'm going to purchase something for my car and see a pep boys sitting beside an advanced auto, I'm going to pep boys. They have more of a selection and the prices aren't too bad. I love working full time, I am in college at the same time so of course I'm tired, but the extra money is too nice.

There's nothing wrong with being prospective for new work. It's good to always be looking for something better.

Every store goes through a rough time. My job is the biggest in Ireland and it had a rough time just before i started and was supposed to close. Roll with it and support them. Everything gets bad before it gets good. Who's to say you leave and then a week later business is booming.

Also you staying even tho it's nothing to you is something to them. Open's up higher roles.
