Alright, I need you to answer a few questions -

what games experience the lag

What resolution do you play

Do you have anti-virus

When was the last time you re-installed windows

What are the rest of your specs? [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Virus maybe? or malware. Have you tried running a full scan with something that isn't Windows Defender by any chance?

This is something I posted to another user who was having issues with their 1080 (not the same GPU as you, but it applies.)

Now, seeing how you mention GeForce Experience updates, that's a point of interest I would look at. GeForce Experience has an option that will auto customise your game settings based of what IT thinks your card can run. The 1070 card is not a 1080p card, it is a 1440p and I would even argue a 4k entry card. It could very well be trying to set it's own resolution on a game for you that your card is struggling to handle at max settings. It might be trying to force you to play on 4k at max settings across the range and you're hitting some serious 20-30 FPS because of it. The problem here, is even if you lower the settings yourself, GeForce over there is being a cuck and still trying to upscale a resolution. Your best bet is to turn this feature off completely. Back when I was on the 970 series GPU, this thing would try to change settings on it's own after every update, even if I disabled long beforehand. Make sure this isn't happening to you at all.

Alternatively, it could be an issue with your PSU. If your PSU is starting to shit out, your hardware in general is going to tank as it has less power to draw, meaning it's not where it should be, equaling less performance. If you have a spare PSU around that can match the wattage and isn't a literally PC bomb, plug everything in and try the games out that you've been having trouble with to see if there's any performance difference.

You also mentioned temps; what temps are you getting right now when in game? Not when you alt-tab, but actually during gameplay. Alt-tabbing can give you a rough estimate of temps, but it's not the exact temps of in game with performance drop.

Other than that, Adam's response is going to be some information we need.

You could also try and do Windows Recovery to a previous time where things were working great, just to see if anything installed that is actually hurting your PC. This would be a last attempt in my eyes as it wastes so much time, but it is an option should nothing else work, and even then, if you're getting to this point, I would start to come to realisation that hardware failure is a very good possibility for what is causing your FPS to tank.

I experience the frame rate drop in every game I play, but worse in some others to the point it's almost unplayable.

I play at 2560 x 1080 on my LG ultrawide.

I'm only using Windows Defender (at the moment)

Probably last installed Windows 10 a few months or so before it all started playing up

For GeForce Experience, I don't regularly use it for my games and I normally customise the settings myself in game rather than using the recommended ones, and I only run at 1080p at the moment anyway.

Can't remember the temps exactly but they were very low whilst playing games, CPU and my GPU.

As mentioned in the reply to Adam, I'm running at 1080p and that's my monitor's resolution.

I haven't ran a full scan on anything other than Defender at the moment, so I guess that could be a big problem and I'm going to scan all of my software to see what crap I could've installed.

I've also now performed a complete scan with Bitdefender Total Security 2017 and nothing.

Have you ran a benchmark on your GPU to see if it's scores are in line with what it should be?

Yeah I ran one about an hour ago, it said my CPU wasn't meeting the performance it should be but I think it's because of my power supply. Going to purchase one soon hopefully. Cheers.

Check dvr mode isn't activated on the xbox app, its a killer.
