Does anyone know where i can get Java lessons/ lesson test and activity type stuff?
I'm 17 and i don't have tons of money to go to school for this or i would already be there.
I know how to write the hello word program and the basic calculator thats basically it..
I have been trying for 2 years now to learn Java and cannot find a decent website, the most useful thing i have found is TheNewBoston ( [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] ) channel on Youtube but theres no activities or exercises to go along with it.
This is getting really irritating.
I have all the necessary hardware and software to write and run Java.
Somebody please help!!!!!

Try some forums related to it. Try googling, Youtube videos. If you are wanting the real stuff then I'd recommend college. Lol

I've never used it, but I've heard that TheNewBoston.com is a good place.
If you want something interactive, there are sites like codecademy.

They have a java course. It is only 4 hours or so long.

Past that there is the offical Java site.
This will go into more details about the language.

These will get you started.
If you want to be serious about java, you don't have to go to college to get into the "real stuff".
I would recommend that you find out what you want to do with java and focus on that area.

What do you mean by "find out what you want to do with java"??

Well Java can be used to many things.
You can make mobile apps, desktop programs (command line and GUI based), website development, database connectivity, networking, Image processing, ect.
It can be used for a lot of things.

More info here: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

What I meant was what do you want to do with java?
Are you learning it to make and app, or just to learn a programming language?

If you want to make apps, then I would look for resources that will help with that.

Things like codeacademy are decent for starting but I would recommend coming up with a personal project that you want to do and just start doing it on your own thats where you can really learn how to do things because youll have to learn as you go. Thats the best way to go in my opinion.

Codeacademy is nice. The site Teamtreehouse began doing Java videos/tracks, as well as a track for Android development last year. I began on that site when I was your age (4 years ago), and it's been invaluable. Their regular membership is $25/month, but I do believe they have a student membership, or at least they did back when I was in high school; you'd have to contact support about getting it applied, I believe.

If you're wanted to do Android apps, you can download Android studio from Google. There are a lot of tutorials out there for making apps and Google offers a huge range of useful resources to help you.
