So I'm sure this has already been discussed but I just want to make sure. My disc drive has ceased to function and I was just wondering if my console or gamertag will run into any problems if I decide to remove it completely.

You can buy a drive specific to your console and take the motherboard from the old DVD drive then put it in the new one, it'll work like a charm.
Or you can solder bridge point 4 to 6 and it'll allow the console to boot without an issue, but I wouldn't recommend this if you're a newbie at soldering.

No if you disconnect the disc drive as I stated above you must solder the points for it to boot error free.

So you're saying even if the disc drive doesn't work what so ever the console still needs to know it's there to boot?

Yes, if the disc drive isn't plugged in the center ROL will just blink and no boot.
