hi folks...wonder if anyone could answer a question for me please....quick story...i have a gigabyte mobo... Z77-DS3H...yeah oldish i know but worked perfectly well i had pc running nicely...intel i5 with 16gb of corsair vengence ram...i had a few windows issues last week so decided it was time for its annual format...couldnt get the pc to boot from the windows usb stick...so i reset the bios to default to try...thats when the problem started....pc would power up for about 3 seconds and then switch off...and this would repeat over and over....removing everything from the board and replacing bit by bit i got it going by removing 2 sticks of ram...put 3 or 4 in and the problem comes back...switching the ram around didnt help...boots up with any of the 2 sticks...in any of the slots....just cant work out why a bios reset would stop my 4 sticks from working.... to be fair pc run nicely with 8gb but its bugging me that i have 8gb sat on my desk! any help would be appreciated...thanks

Sounds like one of your RAM sticks may have stopped working. Try opening the panel, and taking out all sticks besides one. If this solves your issue, one stick is dead. Replace them one by one until it fails to boot again, this will give you the bad memory.

When you plug the 4 sticks in, does your PC post with a certain amount of beeps?
Download and burn this to a CD or USB stick and run the memory test with all the sticks plugged in.

thanks....just grabbing that...i seem to remember 1 long and 3 short at some point (which i think is graphics?) i dont have a separate video card just the onboard intel one. but leaving 2 sticks out cured it so not sure why it would give those beeps.
ive tried all 4 sticks (2 at a time) and they all boot and show up properly in speccy

If you've tried all sticks in sets of 2, then that eliminates the possibility of bad RAM. The issue has to be located either within the BIOS or within the memory controller itself
