No matter what I pick on the bios to boot from all I get is a black screen with writing reading
Reboot or select proper boot device
Or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key

Well you realize you boot into your normal hard drive right?
Unless you don't have a liveUSB/CD or install disc should probably try that, you can't just migrate from HDD to SSD without software/hardware cloning from inside the OS.

Just sounds like your primary boot option is the SSD, which clearly needs to be the HDD.
When you have done this, clone your OS on your HDD to your SSD as mentioned above.
What mobo you got? I'll check the UI in the BIOS for you to help

Have you installed an OS to the new drive? You'll see the black screen you described if the drive has no OS installed or is otherwise not bootable.
Easiest solution is to just clean install the OS to the new drive. You'll still be able to access everything on the old drive if you have both connected. You can also [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
