There is one thing that bothers me, when did all the racist crap get flipped onto the republicans? I mean democrats were the south, fought for slavery and while the north had some as well, they realized it was wrong and fought against it, as others have somewhat said in this thread.

Yet now, before the election you have Bill Clinton over there saying, "that message where 'I'll give you America great again' is if you're a white southerner, you know exactly what it means, don't you? What it means is I'll give you an economy you had 50 years ago, and I'll move you back up on the social totem poll and other people down." I remember thinking "wtf" when he said that.

He also declared trumps slogan racist, yet while googling clintons quote it appears he used "together, we can make America great again" back in 91'. And while campaigning for his wife in 2008, he said, "it's time for another comeback, time to make America great again".

Soooo idk. I don't get how republicans became the racist ones.

The Democrats used to be the conservative party. The two parties basically swapped ideologies swapped during the civil rights movement.
That is why the few racist southern democrats who didn't flee to the Republican party were known as "Dixiecrats".

This is why when signing the civil rights act, Lyndon B Johnson said the democrats just lost the south for a generation, which was more than true.

My attempt lol, I haven't had a history class in a while and they only stayed on certain topics so long because of their agendas. That was honestly the sum of what we were taught, republicans were party of Lincoln and fought to abolish slavery. Still doesn't explain bills hypocrisy on the slogan.
