Don't buy a 7700k. Intel really is not worth investing in right now. Don't buy that SSD, you can get a better one for a lower price. Paying £480 for a GTX 1070 makes absolutely zero sense. You can literally get a GTX 1080 for the same price.

Hi there,

I'd be using my PC for gaming, I would like it to be able to run all games in 1080p at 144hz for when I get the monitor to match.

I wasn't planning on getting the GPU at the moment because of the price hike since I already have a 1060. I would eventually like to upgrade my 1060 to a 1070 or 1080 if I can get a good price.

I will not be overclocking straight away but would like the option to in the future

What SSD would you recommend?
What CPU would you recommend?

I do not need any peripherals and the colour scheme is nuetrul.

There is no current price limit, I would prefer around the £1200-£1600 range.

You can get it for under £1500 if you get just the 1080 OR the monitor. Under £1000 with neither. Intel isn't worth buying right now, at least not until Coffee Lake. Ryzen 5 will be fine for 1440p 144Hz, especially if you overclock it. The GPU will hold you back more than the CPU. 1440p 144Hz monitor with G-Sync. SLI support so you can add a 2nd GTX 1080 at any point. Better, cheaper SSD.

Why not i7 7700k though? I agree it is a bit pricey, but it is still a really high quality processor imo, especially when OCd correctly.

7700k is a terrible CPU IMO. It's temperatures are terrible and Intel are bringing 6 cores to the mainstream with Coffee Lake. It's not worth paying $300+ for a quad core.

An i7 isn't worth the premium for 1440p high refresh rate IMO since an R5 1600 won't perform significantly worse .

The R5 1600 will perform almost as good, or on par with an R7 1700 at the same clock speeds. The GPU will be the limiting factor but R5 1600+GTX 1080 is more than capable of running 1440p at high refresh rates with optimised settings.
