Okay, time for a new build. Destiny 2 Beta dropped yesterday for people who pre-ordered and SLI 1070's don't cut it for 4k, hell even 1440p really. Truth be told, I don't even think there was an SLI option or I just missed it. 4k with 8x AA on is 23-27 FPS. 1440p with 8x AA 60-70 FPS. If I had a 60 Hz monitor for 1440p, good to go, but I have 144Hz. G-sync helps, but I still want to hit the 144Hz mark so it's new build time.

So a few things with the build. I've been waiting for x299 for a while now and decided it's time to jump ship. However, I was debating going with Ryzen or even x399. Problem is, I just simply don't know what I would need all the extra cores for (coming from someone who just threw in a 8 core CPU.) I don't stream or edit, I guess the only thing that would benefit from multiple cores is emulation on Dolphin and CEMU, and the fact that sometimes I keep 2 games running in the background. One single player, one normally multiplayer so when I'm waiting for the round to end, I can jump on single player and get where I can.

CPU cooler. Kraken x62, stuck with Kraken for a while.

GPU. I was waiting on the 1080 Ti Kingpin, but apparently not in stock, out of stock or not released yet? I don't know. I can't find them anywhere so I jumped with the AORUS. Looking at benchmarks it seemed to match the Zotac AMP Extreme in terms of 4k performance , even if both were 1-3 FPS increase over other cards. This card also seemed to compete against the STRIX in terms of cooling and the MSI Gaming X in terms of quietness. Didn't need the Extreme Edition of AORUS, going to OC it anyways.

Motherboard. Kind of wanted EVGA's Dark x299, but EVGA is just apparently holding things a little longer and making my life harder. x299 may not even be my choice as if AM4 or x399 suits me better, then hoping on that train.

RAM. Rather utilise a dual channel at 32GB. 32 isn't really needed, but I can't see myself doing 4x4 for 16 GB.

Storage. 3 TB HDD for most games. 1TB SSD for games I care about fast loading time. 275 GB SSD (such an awkward number) for OS and system files. Might add an M.2 SSD in there eventually, but debating it.

Case. Soooooooooo I chose this case over more recent tempered glass cases because sound dampening foams, wireless QI charger for Android phones. Plenty of storage, I like the front panel. Good fan support. I was thinking of getting the non-window variant so I have more sound dampening foam and because I can throw on another fan to hit my GPU and motherboard directly on that panel. I'm open to case suggestions. I really just care about good airflow, any sort of sound dampening is a plus, support for plenty of 140mm fans, removable magnetic dust filters also is a plus.

PSU. I threw in the Corsair AX860i because I know for a fact it has 2 EPS power connectors which is needed. Supernova G3 was going to be my other choice, just don't know if it has 22 EPS power connectors. Added 850w instead of a 750w because maybeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I will SLI the 1080 Ti (will probably change PSU if I get SLI anyways,) plus just giving myself headroom for overclocking

Fan controller. Sentry 3 is what I used last time. I forgot how much I hate touch screen for changing fan speed. Dials are better for fan control to me.

I'm open to all suggestions on the build. I really don't have a budget in mind, but I am changing my bank card and slowly moving money over every day (since BoA is a cuck about moving money in one lump sum,) so for the sake of things, we'll place a budget of $3500 USD. If lower, that's fine, not going to sweat anything. Also just for transparency reasons, I don't want an i9. That shit is a mini-oven with some benchmarks hitting 90 something goddamn Celsius. Miss me with that oven in my PC lol I just need a system that benefits better on 4k for games across the board, as well as 1440p 144Hz. Overwatch, Destiny 2, PUBG, I guess BF1 and CoD WW2 (if port isn't shit when it comes out) can't think of any other games at the moment. Have no aesthetics preferences, except no white motherboards because that shit foul.

Why the hell are you using AA at 4K? Turn that shit off, makes little difference at higher resolutions therefor is a waste of resources.

Even at 0 it made like a 4 FPS difference. I already know the 1070 isn't going to hit 4k 60 FPS in SLI, let alone one card on most games. It's time for an upgrade anyways.

Yeah, first thing I'd do is at least turn AA down. From what I've heard, Destiny 2 should have at least some multi-GPU support, but I imagine it's either non existent or pretty poor right now. Also, I'm not sure I'd really be investing in X299 right now, with 12 thread Coffee Lake chips on the way. I'm really not convinced the 7820x is worth the $200-300 premium over a mainstream i7, and the motherboard premium for the 2 extra cores, which will be 2 generations behind IPC wise. I'd either go R7 1700, wait for Coffee Lake, or go for Threadripper, but TR4 motherboards are obnoxiously expensive. I really think 8700k is the perfect CPU for this.

Honestly, the CPU is the only sort of 'issue' I'd have with the system, but there are a few things I'd change personally. I'd grab 16GB RAM instead of 32(but yeah, 4GB DIMMs are a no go), I'd get a different 1080Ti, but that's just because I don't like the AORUS cooler, I'd swap the AX860i for an 850W P2, and I'd maybe swap the case for something like an Enthoo EVOLV ATX, or Enthoo Luxe but I'm not entirely sure because that Dark Base Pro 900 is a pretty case, with the right components inside it. Lack of PSU shroud is a boner killer tho

*Edit*
As for EPS connectors, the 850 P2 definitely comes with 2. I'm pretty sure my 850W G2 came with two as well, but I actually can't remember lol.

I mentioned AA just to keep things consistent. I didn't play the full beta on AA, just tested different areas with it on and off. 1440p is where 0 AA really shined, but still fell short of 144 FPS by a somewhat decent amount. 4k was minimal gains with it on. I'm sure 16x would have dropped it below 15 FPS lol. I didn't see the option for SLI, so I must have missed it or it's just not in the beta right now. I can hold off on the build as I completely forgot about the 8700k coming out.

What 1080 Ti did you have a preference for? I was going to go with STRIX again, but that card is way too thick in my opinion. EVGA's FTW3 was my second pick, until I heard about Kingpin, which I don't even know where it's at, so I looked around the picked on AORUS. Does the EVOLV have support for an optical bay? I'm not too concerned about the DVD/Blu-Ray Drive, more concerned about the fan controller. PSU shroud is something I prefer to have, but apparently this case you can move the motherboard tray up more or down more, where a gap can be made near your PSU to tuck away wires a little better behind it, then routing them along the back of the tray.

I'll be throwing in the 850 P2 then as I've stuck with EVGA when it came to PSUs forever. I just needed to make sure it came with 2 ESP connectors.

Yeah, I think SLI support is coming in the future. Still, you're wanting that 1080Ti anyway, right? lol

Yeah, 8700k is gonna be the best choice IMO, 12 threads should be plenty and IPC will be unbeatable, so should be a bulletproof CPU assuming there aren't any weird quirks or issues, like all the stuff with X299.

I'd probably grab a Strix 1080Ti tbh. I hate Asus' customer support, but I don't have to use it very often anyway and my Asus components have always been pretty solid anyway, plus I have a Strix 970. That said, I do quite like EVGA's stuff and their support is supposed to be the best, so maybe an SC2 or FTW3. I'm not sure I'd even bother waiting for the Kingpin card unless I was really looking to do some serious overclocking and messing about with the card, which I wouldn't with a $800+ GPU lol, too scary.

It does not, the Enthoo Luxe does though;

Although the front of the Dark Base Pro 900 is prettier than the Enthoo Luxe tbf, at least IMO. With the EVOLV ATX, you could maybe use an external fan controller? Something like this;

I didn't actually know that, pretty cool.

Yeah, 850P2 will be solid. The thing will probably last until your kids have kids lol
