So I'm going to London for university and as a foreign student the fees is quite high but manageable for me without taking any student loans.

I would like to know that since my father is paying for my tuition, I would not like to take money from him for any other means and would like to do a part time job as London is quite expensive. I'm currently 18 and would like to know how much can I expect to earn in a week. The maximum work hours allowed for me is 20 hrs/week. What's type of part time jobs can I expect to do since this is a first for me.

Any replies and tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It's London. It's full of jobs or potential ones at least. Would be best for you to search around job sites looking for ones that suit you.

Barman/woman
Starbucks
Mcdonald (or similar)

There are loads of places that offer part time work. Just gotta find one you don't mind doing.

Actually this is my first time traveling to an English country. And I've yet to arrive in London. Classes are to start at the around 21-September.

Sorry for asking a dumb question but this the first time got me to travel to a western country as I've only visited and lived in the eastern side

Bar work will probably work out best for you. Since it's usually evening work so you can find time in the days to do whatever studying you may need to do.

It all depends on where you work to, a lot of bar work will pay you minimum wage which is all listed here: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Hopefully if you're working in a decent bar / restaurant you'll be on £7.50+ an hour; hopefully the tips come in too mate.

Just search around on job websites.
As an 18 YR old you'll most likely be on £5.60/h so you'll be expecting around £112 from a 20 hour week.

Also if I were you, apply early before all other students do. More chance to get a job.

I'd try to get a tip job since you can only work 20 hours a week.

Get applying now. You dont want to look like a student who needs some cash on the side like everyone else, you need to stand out.

You mentioned this is your first time visiting the west so I am guessing you are bilingual and have good English. Push this in interviews; knowing multiple languages is great but poor English will harm your chances.

Depending on where abouts you are living there will be a range of opportunities. Night work would be good for you such as stacking shelves at supermarkets, bar/nightclub staff, If you are in good shape then look at getting a SIA license for security/ doorman work.

Good luck with it and welcome to the UK pal
