Do actually need neighbourhood? Or does it just make it easier? Because I'm only using mine for one game

Neighborhood is not necessarily required however some servers and tools may require you to have the xdbm.xex plugin and have your console set as default. Without that you may experience issues.. neighborhood is good to have doesn't take long to set up either

Just to play mw2 online, you do not need neighborhood.

I don't get why you wouldn't want it, it makes everything 10x easier imo

If you only plan on using patches, you'll be fine then.
