I was thinking about getting a m.2 drive for my new system that i am building. i already have a boot drive that is 120gb. i was thinking about getting a 1tb m.2 for my steam library.
What would be the benefit, if any, to having a m.2 vs a regular 2.5" ssd.
Thank you
PS: My Mother Board supports m.2

Don't buy an NVMe SSD for your game library. That's just a waste of money. Higher speeds of NVMe drives will barely help in the majority of games, so the NVMe premium isn't worth it.
Cheapest you'll get an NVMe drive(!TB) is $330, for an Intel 600p, which isn't a great NVMe SSD. Cheapest 1TB NVme SSD I'd be getting is the 960 EVO, and that will set you back $450. Whereas, you can get a 1.1TB Crucial MX300 for $270, or a 1TB 850 EVO for $330, both of which are top of the line SATA SSDs.

As for m.2 vs 2.5", that's up to you. It's just form factor so it doesn't really matter. You won't see a difference between an m.2 850 EVO and a 2.5" 850 EVO, so I'd just get whichever form factor is available cheapest.

If you are just using it for gaming storage, I would just stick with a regular HDD. I use my OS on my SSD but thats for the 3 second boot times.

Thank you, I just saw that mobo had support for m.2.
