Looking to upgrade my PC as I'm starting to notice my CPU really struggling in some games. Not sure if its something that I'm doing wrong, or if things are just getting too demanding for it but either way I'm looking to upgrade. PC is used entirely for gaming and some general desktop use like searching various memes and Youtube videos.

My current build: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
3440x1440 monitor.

I know with upgrading I'd need a new motherboard and RAM. The only real question I have is whether to go with Intel's latest or switch over to Ryzen.

Probably put a budget around $650 (USD) for the total upgrade.

Thanks for the help.

Considering it's solely for gaming purposes, Intel does have the lead slightly over Ryzen performance in a lot of games.

I would wait for the new Intel CPUs to be reviewed before making any purchases.

I mean you could just grab an LGA1150 Xeon, an E3-1230 V3 or E3-1231 V3 for hyper threading. Otherwise, wait for Coffee Lake and grab an i5-8600k, Z370 motherboard and 16GB DDR4 RAM. You might even be able to get an i7-8700k within $650 unless it ends up being $400 for the 8700k alone, but I doubt it.
