What the title says i'm currently using my i5 4690k on a z97x board and i notice some games i play demand 12-16gb very few but some i like to play do. Such as watch dogs 2, Just cause 3, and now the upcoming COD WWII is asking for 8gb min 16gb rec. But mainly the question is am i going to want to spend $120 on ddr3 ram when ddr4 is the almost the same price. Ive also had my 4690k for 4 years now and just overclocked it this year and i don't know the lifespan of a CPU. And then there is the question am i going to need to upgrade the CPU soon making the ddr3 ram useless in time. And lets say i typically don't go overkill with what i buy when it comes to parts but ill be damned if i ever have something in the minimum category. My build is as follows:
CPU: i5 4690k
MOBO: gigabyte GA-Z97x-SLI
GPU: EVGA GTX 1070 ACX
RAM:8GB don't know the brand i bought the pc prebuilt but pretty much rebuilt it since then besides the cpu
PSU: corsair TXM850w
SSD: 2x480gb Sandisk Ultra 2
HDD: toshiba 7200rpm 1tb
Case: lol i know it doesnt matter but CM MasterCase Maker 5t
I am noticing performance issues in said games i know watch dogs 2 is almost unplayable for even the best of builds. I do run some background apps the mains are afterburner synapse and if im streaming then OBS and Twitch.

Correct me if I'm wrong but DDR4 Ram won't fit in your mobo.

Well aware it wont im saying is it worth it if my CPU is gonna need an upgrade within say a year or two. At that point id save the cash up for a whole new board CPU and RAM.

You can buy 1x8GB or 2x4GB DDR3 for $40-55 as far as I can see. As long as you have a spare DIMM slot or 2, you can just add another 8GB RAM, no need for a whole new 16GB kit.
Your 4690k could definitely last more than a year, but that depends entirely on you. You could even just swap the 4690k out for an i7-4770k or 4790k and have that last a little longer. I'm still running my 4790k and have no plan on an upgrade any time soon.

doesnt RAM have to match in timing and in brand? or just timing cause i have no clue what my RAM brand is. There just 2x4gb no heatsink or stickers.

You want to match speed and timings as closely as possible but they don't necessarily have to be the same brand. Even if you run 1600MHz kit with 1866MHz, the 1866MHz kit should just downclock to 1600MHz. RAM can be tricky sometimes though, sometimes you can buy the exact same kit you already have and have them not work together.
